There is also another funicular which takes you up to a higher level with splendid views of the city and a ruined castle to look around.
You can also view the relics of a former Pope in an alcove off the main church.

I stayed up in Citta Alta recently and it was a really amazing place...Great views of the Alps and Citta Basa..the funicolare is very quick and extremely enjoyable..Italy is very diverse and Citta Alta in beautifu...
... a visit to the cathedral churches, a cup of coffee in a tranditional cafe and use of the funicular to be transfered to the castle on the highest spot of La Citta Alta which provides a panoramic view of Bergamo.

Or the Venetian wall is excellent for strolling around , running or walking and sit and admire the views of downtown Bergamo and surroundings mountains Great short cut to downtown city center from the big White gate
You can get a great view of the modern part of the city from there as well as admire some of the impressive gates (San Giacomo is my favorite!).

I visited at 3pm and it was wonderfully quiet, so suitable to solemnly view the tombs, medieval furnishings, frescoes, mosaics and of course, the Roman Domus.
Another beautiful and incredible site in the quaint old city - just one of a million treasures in this treasure trove!

The highlight of the fee was you get to go back outside and walk up some stairs to get an amazing elevated view of Bergamo.
