We've now visited all there Rayleigh museums made up of The Dutch Cottage, Rayleigh Windmill and Rayleigh Town Museum and this is by far and away the most accessible.
Visitors from abroad arriving at Southend Airport or by sea via Tilbury would find a visit to Rayleigh a very pleasant experience and a visit to the Raykeigh Town Museum would make a day in Rayleigh complete.

The ground floor museum was fascinating; the art works on the first floor were wonderful; and the third floor gave an insight to the history of the town and it's Norman motte and bailey castle.
We climbed to the top where you get a view of the surroundings and the Mound and then worked our way back down through the local history museum and the windmill history on the ground floor.

A couple of weeks ago, after having left Southend many years ago I returned via a coach trip to visit my schoolfriend and we came on a nostalgic trip to the park -and the Priory museum.
