The marina area and the promenade down from the end of Isla Canela is really lovely. Still fairly quiet in May but lots of restaurants and cafe bars getting ready to open. Ferry boat across to Isla Christina is very good. Go Sunday for the clothes market, real bargains to be had.. Walk across the road bridge to Punta Del Moral, traditional fishing village and worth a couple of hours.

Great value for money to go to Ayamonte. The port for the ferry is right in the town, very close to the main square. Easy to get tickets (the office opens 15 minutes before). In the low season remember to check the times at the office or on the boat on a Sunday as there are fewer trips. The journey time is about 15 minutes so excellent for a morning or afternoon. We used this a few times. Remember that the shops will close at lunchtime (around 2pm) in Ayamonte and won't open up until later (around 4pm or a bit later) so time your visit accordingly unless you've planned to have lunch and wait. There are plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants to eat at.

Very nice bridge, as bridges go, just like a mini QE2 UK Bridge connects Spain to Portugal by Autovia, Free of charge too! When travelling from Spain to Portugal you put clocks BACK ONE Hour, Tourists can pull into Service area on arrival in Portugal and register there car for Autopay Motorways in Portugal, they take an Auto photo of car Reg. and your credit card details, and you do not need to stop to pay any motorway fees in PORTUGAL,

This attractive church looks impressive as you approach it, with the steps making you look upwards towards the entrance and the bell tower above. There are several café bars where you can sit on the adjacent street.

We enjoyed spending an hour wandering around this square, having a drink, and admiring the very well kept monument to our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Shaded by palm trees, it’s a very pleasant place to spend some time and watch the world go by.

We visited this old tidal mill during low tide. The entrance is free. Inside the mill all panels are in Spanish only, but the lady at the desk gave us an English Audioguide for free that worked OK.

It was nice to see how the millstones were moved by the water that was coming from the see to the swamps.

In the surrounding nature park there are quite a few birds and tiny crabs that come out of holes in the mud. They are easily scared, so it takes time to see them.

A lot of local people were walking there, I think because it is not far from Ayamonte.

A small museum in the marshes (Las marismas), about 15 minutes walk from Ayamonte centre - just follow the road behind the tourist office up by the river. The museum used to be an old mill so it is quite interesting. The view from the roof across the marshes is a great spot for bird watching - bring your binoculars. Ana was very helpful and will advise you on the best places to visit to see flamingos, the local salt pans etc.

Here on vacay with my wife and our two boys (15 & 12). We rented scooters to explore the area when we stumbled onto this nature reserve. All I can say is WOW! Coming from the busy/crowded Amsterdam area, I was a real treat to be completely surrounded by nature and nothing else. Everyone was impressed...yes, even our boys...so we considered this outing a win!!🙌🏾!
So, if you’re in the area, I would definitely recommend you rent bikes, scooters, or if your feeling adventurous...hike it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!

We were a group of 13 who stayed for 3 nights in early May 2023 to okay golf. We were really impressed with the hotel and staff, just so helpful. The rooms have obviously had a major refurbishment and were very nice. We only had breakfast each day, but that was excellent. We didn’t play the Old Course (long story) but did play the Links twice and that was good. The local town (Ayamonte) is very authentic and friendly and has great restaurants and bars and a nice harbour area. Would totally recommend.

This is a free Zoo in the middle of Ayamonte. There were 2 bears, a tiger, monkeys and a few other animals. You can walk around it in about 20 minutes or so. They are not the best of enclosures for the animals.
