A beautiful town on Lake Garda with a large Saturday market, plenty of shops and restaurants, and lots of easy parking. Very pretty.

Salo’ is inside the gulf with its name and this beautiful pedestrian street runs through it entirely.
All around the little Moreninici mountains
From here you can take ferry that connects Salo’ to the others cities on the Lake

What a fun experience. I would say a must if you’re in the Garda region and like Go ape or any climbing fun challenges. It was so much fun and will only be improving under the new super friendly ownership. We loved it and will definitely come back.

Situated a few metres from the centre of salo it is worth making a detour to visit the duomo, as with many places in Italy it does close over he lunch period .

We happened upon this museum by accident, as we happened upon the town it’s in, having taken a ferry from Desenzano and decided to stop in Salò just because it wasn’t too far. We didn’t know the history- that Salò was home to Mussolini’s government the last 2 years of WWII. And we didn’t know about this interesting , small museum until we landed and saw a poster at the port stop. It’s has 3 floors - the basement devoted to Italian military history, the second to art, and the third, and most interesting, to Mussolini, WWII and how awful it was, and propaganda during the war. The commentary was entirely in Italian (it’s off the beaten path you might say) and Google translate definitely came in handy. It’s fascinating to see what is written by the opposition and worth the visit if you find yourself on Lake Garda. BTW the ticket agents all speak some English. I bought a Chagall TShirt as a souvenir with the quote in English.

A great place to stroll around and this lovely Italian lakeside town. Lots of small streets etc with shopping in mind for the fashionable. You can sit on benches and watch the lake ferries come and go by. There are also a range of restaurants and ice cream shops to try. When its too hot to walk along the front you can go down the side streets which follow the route of the lakeside.

We walked up to this church on a steep hiking path. The church was locked, so we didn't go inside, but on the outside it was quite cute and offered som nice views back down towards the lake.

We could not access the Watchtower from outside, but we used it as a point of reference for meeting people and if we got lost. Well kept up and clean facade. You cannot see Salo without seeing the Watchtower and it makes a good focal point for pictures.

As you walk along the main street off the waterfront in Salo, spend a little time to visit this small church. Yes, it's not as impressive as the main cathedral, but it's there and you should still make the visit. Wonderful ceiling paintings and well presented altar.

Porta S.Giovanni is an entrance to Salò located at the intersection of two busy streets. Nothing too special about it, except for the coat of arms bas relief.
