- Daniel HZurich, Switzerland24 contributionsImpressive private tour and tasting for the three of us. The tasting consisted of a small glass of chateau d'Yquem. We were lucky and could taste an excellent vintage accompanied with some cheese, meat an classic music. You have to book much in advance.Written April 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PaulGraham99London, UK96 contributionsI love Sauternes. I love Bordeaux reds too but given the effort that goes into making Sauternes they seem generally under appreciated and undervalued. D'Arche is a 2nd Growth and well-made wines at this level can represent very good value indeed. I was keen to visit D'Arche as I have purchased their Sauternes in the past.
Amalie was our charming and well-informed host/guide. We started by looking out over the vineyard. Excellent vineyard - and very, very quiet! Amalie told us about the histry and ethos of D'Arche. We then toured the winery and enjoyed some interesting aromas from the recent harvest. Then the tasting; five wines of different labels and ages - all very drinkable, with surprising (but balanced) acidity throughout.
Thank you Amalie for a very memorable and worthwhile visit.Written October 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. One can taste wines by the glass, as well as buying bottles and half bottles of good and excellent different producers. Worth the detour.Written October 12, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- iSeePlacesNavi Mumbai, India50 contributionsI really can't forget the taste of this sweet white wine... I'm haunted by the taste since long after we were there... regret not buying a bottle since we never found better white wine which is so naturally sweet in out entire tour of France. ..

The winery is quite modest compared to the Grand Chateau and the wines.
Gabriel provided a very refreshingly informal and informative tour of the facilities. We tasted two wines which were both excellent including the fabulously concentrated 2009 Ch Filhot.
Wines represent great value, particularly the older vintages.
Great tour and taste, highly recommend.Written July 22, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. At the end, I got brochures and maps, so alright.Written September 2, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Prof_duncSt. Albans, UK59 contributionsGreat place to learn about all the wines of the region, with wines from every vineyard in the 5 villages that make up the Sauternes region.
Sampling was fun and the staff had great knowledge to share , and spoke better English than I spoke French !Written February 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The layout of the house suited perfectly and a proper kitchen was a bonus.
The pool table and table football were in frequent demand and the swimming pool was a good way to finish the day. All three generations had fun. Vanessa and her family were friendly and informative about the local area. Vanessa also gave us a fascinating tour and tasting with “children’s wine” for the small people.
Watching the sun go down from the terrace with a glass of Lamothe wine was beautiful.
Sauternes was in easy walking distance with a boulangerie and the Art cafe both of which were exceptional. There are other restaurants and wine tasting centres too.Written June 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Our guide was incredibly informative and we learned a lot of Sauternes wines; from the harvesting process to the pressing and fermenting stages, our guide Laurence educated us and helpfully answered all our questions. A definite highlight of our trip to the Bordeaux region!Written December 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gkuyperCincinnati, OH36 contributionsWe worked with Paul over several months to create a custom itinerary for our visit to Bordeaux for two and a half days prior to our boarding a river cruise out of Bordeaux. I can say that the time we spent with Paul was the highlight of our whole trip. In putting the itinerary together Paul listened to our wants, made suggestions based upon them, changed the plan based upon our feedback, and handled all the details before we arrived.
On day one we visited two Chateaux in Medoc, touring the properties, learning a lot about their process to create outstanding wines, and, of course, having a taste. He arranged for us to have lunch at a quaint restaurant in the area and later dinner along the river in Bordeaux.
On Day 2 we took a private boat trip in Arcachon , stopping along the way to have a delicious lunch at an oyster shack. Following the boat ride we climbed the dunes, took a drive through the beautiful homes in Arcachon, and had dinner at a restaurant overlooking the bay.
The last morning Paul took us to the Sauternes region and visited a Chateau to taste these wonderful wines. Upon completion of the tasting he took us back to our B&B, picked up our bags and dropped us at our ship.
Paul was a most gracious host, very knowledgeable about the Bordeaux region, and the wines there in. He was genuinely interested in us as well and we parted as friends, not just clients. If you are going to Bordeaux and want a truly wonderful and custom experience, contact Paul at Octopus Wine Tours.
