The Best National Park for Humpback Whales, there are 4 different entrances to the park and if you go with a sedan you can use Waze and enter “Cabinas gato” and from there it takes around 5 minutes to get to the national park and you do not need a 4wd or 4×4.

During low tide, the water reveals a marvelous formation of rocks and sand in the form of a “whale tail” so be sure to check the tides for the day , so you can walk the length of the Whale’s Tail.

We walked here from our hotel which took around 50 minutes. The entrance was very cheap ($4 each) and gave you entrance to both the butterfly garden and the waterfalls. The butterfly garden only had a couple of different species and was very short but did enable you to get some fantastic photos up close. The waterfall trails are very well kept and is only a 5 minute walk. There is a large waterfall with a ladder to the top which allows you to slide down the falls if you’re brave enough. There is also a jumping platform further down the river, and many different swimming holes with mini falls. It was a very beautiful area where you can spend at least half a day. There is also a restaurant on site and a souvenir shop. Overall a fantastic place which is great value for money.

Lack of research before visiting meant that we hadn’t realised that the beach at Uvita was a National park. The entrance fee wasn’t extortionate and you could enter multiple times the same day. We’d recommend checking tide times before you go as we had to wade across to get to the end of the whale tail. It’s very picturesque with rainforest meeting tropical beach and surrounded by a beautiful mountainous backdrop. There is an information trail through the rainforest (both in English and Spanish) where we also witnessed some fantastic wildlife including howler monkeys and a giant ant highway. You could easily spend the day on the massive beach, but be warned there’s little in the way of shade, and you will need plenty of water. There are toilets and showers available at the entrance. Overall definitely worth the visit.

I don't even know where to start with this review! First off, our group was late and management was kind enough to accommodate for us. This was so appreciated as it was the only day we had available for this tour. Wow, our expectations were exceeded! Hector was a true gentleman leading our group of three through the jungle. He was so knowledgeable about the property and the environment. The jungle experience was just gorgeous. I had actually lost my phone at the beginning of the tour and Hector was kind enough to call back to the Ranch and have others look for my phone while I enjoyed the tour. We ended up finding the phone, a couple at the beach had found it. Hector was kind enough to cut them coconuts as a proper thank you. I was so impressed with this kindness. Thank you Rancho la Merced management and Hector for the excellent experience! I hope to be back soon :) - Aurora

This was an amazing experience guided by Enrique and Humberto who own the property. A challenging hike to 3 waterfalls with spectacular scenery along the way. The are very knowledgeable about Costa Rica, it’s animals, birds and vegetation. Humberto’s wife has an authentic Costa Rican lunch prepared when you return. Bring lots of water, swim suits and good walking shoes.

Alejandra worked with me via email in planning our trip to the Uvita area. She always responded quickly and was patient with all of my questions. We booked private transportation from SJO, car rental, Corcovado overnight, Oro Verde, Cano Island and Marino Ballena snorkeling tours with Alejandra's assistance. All of the tour operators were fantastic. Our trip was perfect and I couldn't have planned it without Alejandra's expertise. Thank you so much Alejandra!

Ronnie and his daughter, Sammie, gave my husband and I a private tour. My husband is a birder and he enjoyed their expertise. They even called in an antpita! We were impressed, saw new birds for his life list and enjoyed our conversations with them. At the end of the tour we went to their house where Ronnie's wife made a delicious Costa Rican breakfast for us. We couldn't have asked for a better tour! Thank you Ronnie!

The beach was cordoned off for Envision Festival participants. There was a lot going on, great people watching, nude sunning/swimming if so desired......all natural!

My wife and I enjoyed our visit and the ceramic artwork is special (and high end). This is the artist's home, and she only has a few items on display. That said, she will custom make a piece for your home. Only if you are seriously interested in ceramic arts should you visit. Make sure you follow the directions (turn left when you are at the west end of the soccer field, then 8 or so houses down on your left.

Amazing work is done here! The volunteers care for the many cats and dogs. Everyone is compassionate and upbeat. We started as volunteers then adopted the first dog we tried (not too hard) to foster.Poloma is a love and El Refugio brought her back from the brink of starvation and ruin. We are so grateful!

Please donate to them. They help to get medical care not just for those they care for but procure rides for animals to and from the vet not in their care.

The community and the animals are fortunate to have them!

Rama surf was recommended by a local surf shop. Great recommendation. We found Rama and Gabriel to be very attentive to our kids needs(11 and 5). Both kids had so much fun learning to surf. Before they even got to the water, they thought them about stretching before hand and how to get on the board and even turn the board. This was great fun and the kids loved it. They also thought them about other stuff like the moon cycle for waves etc. Lessons were easy to book and pay for. Great experience overall and would definitely recommend. Thanks guys!

Our group of seven had a great time on this tour. In fact, the three teenagers that were with us said it was the best part of their trip. The ATV's are in great condition, the guides are very friendly, and the scenery is beautiful. We loved stopping in the little mountain village to meet with the family that produces small batches of coffee along with meeting their two dogs Burrito and Pinto. We got to see several really pretty waterfalls too. Such a fun day.

3 of our group of 8 decided to take surf lessons during our recent trip to Costa Rica. The host of our VRBO home highly recommended Bodhi Surf and we understand why - they were FANTASTIC! Everything was very organized and professionally done, the instructors were so skilled and explained all the techniques very well. Our "never-surfed-before" students were up on their boards and catching waves halfway into this 2 hour lesson. We highly recommend this group!

Real Canyoning. Carlos and Alex are totally professional and teach you to do this on your own. Looks scary, but I felt totally safe with this group. Super knowledgeable. They also teach you about the wildlife and native plants in the Canyon. Definitely the most exciting thing I've ever done

Amazing snorkelling tour. Can’t recommend enough! The captain Roy was great, as was our guide Henry. Both so friendly and informative and spoke great English. We saw dolphins, turtles and sea snakes. Defo go with these guys!! We got a much better deal than at other places for $50 each.
