What travelers are saying
- Vincent R.Amersfoort, The Netherlands645 contributionsHolbox is a really relaxed island, if you plan to relax, enjoy sun, beaches and food. That being said, there is not much to do on the island and in my opinion 3 days is a good time to spend on the island.Written March 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SRod1967Pittsburgh, PA47 contributionsAfter doing some research, we decided, with our family that we would walk from our hotel to Punta Mosquito. There are many tours that take you by boat there, but, frankly, unless you have problems ambulating, it is an easy walk. We walked east until, the last hotel on the beach and then, you can walk through the water to the sandbar and then make your way to Punta Mosquito where all the boats are. Definitely worth the trip. The water is crystalline and, despite the many boats that arrive, it is quite peaceful.Written August 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ilovemasters87Birmingham, UK92 contributionsWe were welcomed into the centre and immediately got to spend some time with the animals. They have 50- odd dogs who all looked so well cared for and looked after. And so we got to spend time with the kittens and more mature cats. They are so clearly loved and well looked after. We then took Balo the dog for a walk down the beach. He was kind and well behaved. A great cause to support. You need to visit.Written August 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Carol WAuckland Central, New Zealand39 contributionsVisited Yalahau as part of a 3 islas tour. Pristine natural spring just past the mangroves. Beautiful to swim in - cooler than the sea and welcome respite on a really hot day. Good clean restrooms.Written October 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SRod1967Pittsburgh, PA47 contributionsWe walked from our hotel directly to Punta Coco’s. It was an easy walk. You can either go through the Backstreets or through the beach itself. We elected through the beach because there was a lot of standing water on the streets. The water, when you get there is crystalline. There were approximately 15 to 20 flamingos, which we could observe from afar. Overall, well worth the trip. There is a small beach bar with serves drinks and provides lounge chairs. We did not spend more than a few hours therefore we did not use their facilities but if needed, they do have simple bar type food and drinks. Definitely would recommend going here if you travel to Holbox.Written August 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jayne MToronto, Canada16 contributionsStopped off during our 3 island tour. Great place for a refreshing dip in the Cenote. Entertaining raccoons were a delight.Written January 27, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JW van TDen Bosch, The Netherlands10 contributionsHave been on the ferry couple of years a go - the ferry itself was good and comfortable. But I would advise everyone to pin before arrival. We came directly via the airport of Cancun with a Shuttle to Chiquila for the ferry to Holbox. We had already tried to pin at the airport. But all pin devices were out. We had the same problem in Chiquila and you could only pay for the ferry tickets in cash. Because we had to catch the last ferry and couldn't withdraw cash, we had a big problem. Luckily there was a company employee who finally allowed us to pay on the way back.Written February 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve M12 contributionsIt is a trek to get to the island but worth cool beach island vibe . Late March no mosquitoes -road’s drying from earlier flooding.
I was surprised at very high lodging prices -somehow I thought being distance from Cancun would be lower . Food /beverage were high too but acceptable considering the logistics of bringing it all in . Some good music/ fun bars at night.
Wonderful service folks everywhere.
Really not much to do after we did Yum Balam reserve. Had done a lot of cenotes already prior so just hanging at beach . Watch out for charges at beach clubs -seemed like more than expected.
Not season for whale sharks or flamingos .
Rented bikes that were trashed but got us around.
By no means an undiscovered paradise but refreshing change from overdeveloped Cancún .Written March 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - amy38117Monterrey, Mexico49 contributionsThis place isn’t actually on Holbox Island. It’s on the mainland between Cancun and Holbox. I heard it’s neat though.Written January 7, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AustinJanet10 contributionsWhat a lovely person (whose name I cannot remember) who operates this shop. She speaks several languages. Her framed pieces of art are not expensive, and they are one of a kind pieces of art to have as a souvenirWritten July 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AdventurousTraveler6Laramie, WY193 contributionsThese folks will get you there reliably, and their customer service is very helpful (if not always English-specking). Some of the vans with stiffer suspensions are somewhat terrifying (fast speeds, narrow roads, making it a thrill ride), while the bigger vans have soft suspensions are much less scary.Written February 1, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
