Crags around milecastle 39 and the famous sycamore gap and various other features like woodland and a lough make for an excellent 4 mile circular walk from Steel Rigg National Trust car park.
The walk to the site is steep, but it's through a pasture of sheep, you can go at your own pace, and the views and walking on the wall are worth it.

We had a beautiful walk today along the newly restored middle path which was great at this time of year with the trees changing cookout.
It was a lovely sunny day with a slight breeze which made the stroll very pleasant.
