Great costumes on the marionettes (they are three feet high) and the puppeteers were so clever at manipulating their charges that it was like watching a play with human actors.
The show was just under an hour--all in Italian- with gallant knights, damsels in distress, sword fights etc, Great fun.

... a Jewish synagogue -the mikveh (Jewish bath) can be seen in the lower level-, a crypt, a church, and a bomb shelter which could be accessed from underground tunnels starting from different churches during WWII.
For a small donation, you get a very interesting guided by one of the volunteers who takes you to three levels underground, first to a Christian crypt, then to the same tunnels you see at the Ipogeo, which were us...

The museum begins with pre-history of the Sicilian neolithic then moves along through Greek settlement, and on to the Roman period.
This is a must visit museum, and plan to spend there a couple of hours, its really amazing and worth visiting.

The room where you can recreate inventions was great fun for the kids (and adults) although it would have been good if they had switched the air con on!
Takes about an hour and gives an insight and a quick chance at manipulating some of the two scientist' inventions.

This small and lovely church is very important since it's built on a place where it's believed St Lucia died and was burried.
Definitively worth the cost of the ticket and the time to walk around inside.

Beneath most of an attractive old church (it's lost its roof, for instance) there are the catacombs where early Christians in Syracuse were buried.
The ruined church at the end of the tour is also steeped in history and remarkably interesting.

Jewish Bath

Syracuse 8.0 mi away

This is a Jewish ritual bath that was hand-carved underground 2000 years ago and used until the Jews hid it in the 1400s before they were forced out during the Inquisition.
Interesting 15 minute tour for 5€.

It is worth going into this newish church and the interior is very interesting as a piece of modern church architecture.
We soon learned that the huge, conical church is meant to resemble a teardrop; for that is its function - to provide a venue for pilgrims to come and pray at the site of the miracle of Siracusa -the weeping madonna.
