Not sure if this place is changing ownership or what, but used to be called Volcanic Climbing and Fitness and had a smaller sister location in Kailua that is more dedicated to climbing. The Honolulu branch which is tentatively called Climb to Fitness offers more amenities that you would expect from a regular gym. They have no top-roping climbing, just bouldering, which can be busy in the evenings and on weekends, to the point where it's chaotic. There are also no rules about children, so on weekends you can often see toddlers playing on the crash pad mats and kids running around. I wish they established a better system for this.
The rest of the gym is adequate. Good standard machines and cardio room. Yoga room. Pool and spa, ice bath, sauna, steam room.
The whole thing could use some TLC, big time. A fresh coat of paint downstairs and in the locker rooms would go a long way! Some fake plants or ANYTHING to make it feel less dumpy (for lack of a better word). Ceiling tiles missing in areas showing exposed pipes. Flooring only partially finished in others. Hopefully the change in management (?) or whatever is happening will mark a new era of improvements to the aesthetics and general feel, since this place really could have a lot of potential under the right direction.
