Get your tickets early so you aren’t in the standby line. You get 15 minutes at the memorial so make it count. Incredible after 80 years there is still fuel rising to the surface. The stories, artifacts, and pictures take you back to that time and leave you mind blown. There’s a reason FDR said “a date which will live in infamy.” Very moving memorial that strengthens American pride.

Beautiful layout, good presentation. I have been to other national cemeteries and I missed the white crosses . The monuments to the MIAs brought me to tears. There is a city overlook which you shouldn’t miss. We witnessed a military burial while we were there, sadly no family or friends attended but he was given full honors.

The Mausoleum land is one of three places in Hawaii that are sovereign (the others being the Iolani Palace and Pu’ukohola Heiau. Because of this classification, the Hawaiian flag can officially fly without the American flag. When you walk onto the grounds, a sense of peace and calm envelops you. The mausoleum is the final resting place of Hawaiian royalty including King
King Kamehameha II through King Kamehameha V, and Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. There are two crypts and a chapel on the grounds. It is about 1.5 miles from downtown Honolulu and worth a trip.

We just took a look around at the exterior of the tomb. It's got very cool architecture and has been there for quite a long time.

... this place is not the Bowfin Memorial Ship and Park by the Arizona Monument Museum - no that place draws the hordes. This is just a quiet neighborhood park of sorts that can't be accessed unless you got military ID. And that neighborhood on Pearl Harbor is a bunch of dorms/barracks for current young submariners (I think) on active duty. Plenty of monuments in this park honoring the submarines and crews that didn't come back from WWII. Nice little reminder - in your face - many times a day - of what could be. No really it's all very cool and well done and maintained too. And a nice and shady place to relax which is actually a requisite condition of any great park. There's some very solemn monuments of different types as well as some interesting educational information panels dotted along the small area. Got some torpedo static displays in there. The crowning showpiece of the park is the tower (sail/fin?) of the US Parche - an extremely historical piece of American naval history. There's a sign that says you can't go on it but if I had some kids, I'd toss it and let them jump around and have fun. I know this is where Capt Red Ramage was when he led his great men into battle and earned his Medal of Honor and Navy Cross. Whoah, maybe I should try to get the kids to soak it in about walking in the footsteps a great national hero like Capt Red. There it is. Hey close by is a historical naval chapel too, but I haven't figured out how to get in and see it. I will soon.
