I really don't have anything new to add. This is a truly moving experience. The oil floating up from the ship is chilling. We can forget our history.

This larger than life statue stands in the very central part of Waikiki beach and almost everyone takes a pic in front of it.
However, I am not sure they also read the plaque beneath to learn who's this outstanding man - fastest swimmer of his era, winner of several Olympic medals, father of surfing and atop of all a hero who saved lives in California. Big respect.

I think this statue of King Kamehameha I might be one of the most iconic statues in the United States. Maybe it's because of TV shows, like Hawaii Five-0.

The first casting of this statue is located in North Kohala on the island of Hawaii. This second casting of the statue was erected here in 1883. The artist was Thomas Ridgeway Gould.

If you're taking an organized city tour, your tour bus might park and allow you to alight for a few minutes. More likely, it will stop to allow you to take pictures of this statue from the bus.

I was staying in Waikiki and rode a bicycle into this area so that I could tour and take photographs at my own pace. Sites I visited included: the State Capitol; St Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral; Honolulu Hale; Washington Place; the Hawaiian Mission Houses and Mission Memorial.

With reference to this statue specifically, taking photos can be a challenge. Depending on the time of day, there can be a lot of tourists milling about. And lighting varies, due to time of day and weather.

This site is worth visiting, simply because it such a nice statue, and carries such historic and cultural value.

USS Arizona certainly had the greatest loss of lives, almost 1200, and maybe because of that it has the biggest memorial in all Pearl Harbor area.
Imo, USS Oklahoma memorial, another destroyed ship with its servicemen is maybe smaller than it should be, like a second grade one. It consists of equal white marble columns with victim names inscribed on them.
It's located by the spot where the shuttle bus leaves you for the USS Missouri and many people simply overlook it. From the whole bus only another couple and myself visited it.

The Mausoleum land is one of three places in Hawaii that are sovereign (the others being the Iolani Palace and Pu’ukohola Heiau. Because of this classification, the Hawaiian flag can officially fly without the American flag. When you walk onto the grounds, a sense of peace and calm envelops you. The mausoleum is the final resting place of Hawaiian royalty including King
King Kamehameha II through King Kamehameha V, and Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. There are two crypts and a chapel on the grounds. It is about 1.5 miles from downtown Honolulu and worth a trip.

The Utah memorial is one of the lesser known and less accessible of the memorials but is worth seeing if you have a military/govt ID or can get escorted access. It’s both shocking and humbling to see a lot of the Utah’s wreckage still protruding out of the water and highlights the relative range of the attack given that it’s on the opposite side of Ford Island from the Arizona and Battleship Row.

Perhaps the most serene way to access this is to run or walk along the paint-marked walking trail that extends northward from the far end of the former Ford Island aircraft runway and a Naval Officers housing area on to the memorial. It hugs the coastline and brings you to the site just after passing the back side of the giant NOAA building. This is particularly beautiful at sunrise and the opportunity to view and salute the Utah as a turn-around point is a true honor and privilege.

Gracious staff, quite unexpectedly seen at the shopping areas. The bronze statue was beautiful. A nice reminder of a wonderful time in place. So unexpected! Please consider to keep this place in good service. Such a magnificent experience not to be missed.

Make sure you don't miss this beautiful statue of Queen Liliuokalani. Loved reading the history on this. She was beautifully adorned with a lot of leis.

These two surfers are looking at each other with such admiration. We walked by them each day on the way to the beach. They were adorned with leis people had left on them. It was disappointing that the fountain was not on and that the bottom of the pool was often filled with garbage.

Gandhi is one of my heroes so I was pleased to find his statue here, although he has little to do with Honolulu. Good art.

This statue is at Kuhio Beach close by the bus stop for ‘Hop on Hop off’ lines. It depicts what Waikiki and Hawaii is known for in the way of water sports. Surfing is still a big deal here and so fun to watch!!

Fort Derussy Beach Park is a major piece of green space at one end of the Waikiki tourist zone. The "Brothers in Valor Memorial" is adjacent and holds a conspicuous spot, as you travel along Kalākaua Avenue. This monument honors the World War II Veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the Military Intelligence Service, and the 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion. Each of these units had roots in Hawaii and rendered great service to the nation.

The footprint of the monument is large; yet the elements that make up the memorial are not. There is focal monument in the center, and four quadrant markers at perimeter compass points. It's a modest monument, relative to the contributions these men made.

I fear that like a lot of monuments, they become part of the environment in which they occupy. And as it becomes a part of the landscape, people forget or ignore what the monument is all about.

As you go for a walk or run, it's worth taking ten minutes or so to read the four panels and learn about these men and their service.

Statue just off the Beach along the main road. This offers another opportunity to grab a photo of the family. Not as exciting as the Duke statue but still neat local history.

Standing near the entrance of Kapiolani Park and facing the ocean is a statue of Queen Kapiolani, wife of King David Kalākaua. The exact address is 2686 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu.
Queen Kapiolani established the Kapiolani Maternity Home, now the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. In 1885, she also opened up the Kapiolani Home for Girls, which was for healthy children whose parents were suffering from leprosy.
Evidently, she cared a great deal for her people.
