The statue stands prominently in front of Aliiolani Hale in Honolulu, Hawaii. The King was the founder of Hawaii. You got to see if you are in the area

This, combined with the Arizona memorial and Missouri make for a better understanding of that important time. This gives a much more complete picture because it hits at the enormity of the destruction and the enormity of the effort to recover from it.

The Mausoleum land is one of three places in Hawaii that are sovereign (the others being the Iolani Palace and Pu’ukohola Heiau. Because of this classification, the Hawaiian flag can officially fly without the American flag. When you walk onto the grounds, a sense of peace and calm envelops you. The mausoleum is the final resting place of Hawaiian royalty including King
King Kamehameha II through King Kamehameha V, and Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. There are two crypts and a chapel on the grounds. It is about 1.5 miles from downtown Honolulu and worth a trip.

Remnants of the USS Utah can be seen off Ford Island. It sank and rolled over when it was hit with torpedoes at the beginning of the Pearl Harbor attack. Sixty-two crew members were killed, most of whom were trapped when the shipped rolled over. An attempt to salvage the wreck failed. Of note, the Utah service in the war was about 15 minutes. A memorial to the remains of the Utah is at Pearl Harbor. Although once a battleship, the Utah was not classified as a battleship during the Pearl Harbor attack. The ship’s contribution to the Pacific Fleet that it deflected torpedo hits at other US warships.

Gandhi is one of my heroes so I was pleased to find his statue here, although he has little to do with Honolulu. Good art.

Waikiki Beach has an long esplanade which is always bustling with activity. The path includes a number of statues, and the one of Prince Jonah Kuhio is a prominent one. The Kuhio Beach alongside this statue is named after Prince Kuhio, who was a representative of the Territory of Hawaii in the US Congress. Interestingly, I did see people adorning the statue by placing leis as a mark of respect. It is a good addition to the Waikiki Beach.

The statue made by Native Hawaiian sculptor Sean Browne, stands near the Kalakaua Avenue and is worth a small visit during your stay in Honolulu. This bronze statue is a replica of the original honoring Kamehameha the Great. The original statue now stands at his birthplace in Kapa’au on the island of Hawaii.

    About King Kalakaua
Hawaii's King David Kalakaua was born in 1836 and he ruled Hawaii from February 12, 1874 until his death on January 20, 1891. King Kalakaua and his wife Queen Kapiolani traveled extensively and they met personally with the leaders of many different countries during their reign.

Standing near the entrance of Kapiolani Park and facing the ocean is a statue of Queen Kapiolani, wife of King David Kalākaua. The exact address is 2686 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu.
Queen Kapiolani established the Kapiolani Maternity Home, now the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. In 1885, she also opened up the Kapiolani Home for Girls, which was for healthy children whose parents were suffering from leprosy.
Evidently, she cared a great deal for her people.
