There is good parking at the wharf in Salem, so this could be a nice family or couples outing from Salem to Boston and back, or you could take the ferry one way and come back on the commuter rail from North Station.
Some books and toys were available for children hich was a nice touch.

I was lucky enough to visit on an October weekend with bright sunny skies and sitting in the warm sunshine on this common amidst food concessions and family activities was the essence of autumn.
Lovely, large, green open space just a few blocks from the down town, Children play there and Moms walk their babies.

The harbor is peaceful and quite, the park is just the right size for kids to play, and the waterfront is an amazing spot for kids to explore!

The volunteer at the Customs House was very knowledgeable and patient with the kids and their questions...mine too!
We got the history of the merchant Derby family, Derby Wharf, and Salem Harbor Then we visited the Narbonne House, which had been a single family home for centuries -- which is why NPS wanted it.

Great fun for the entire family - when in Salem make sure to visit this museum - great art, the Chinese house is great - I have been a customer for years
This museum is always a pleasure to visit with great interactive displays for children, but do catch this exhibit before it leaves for London in October 2017.

The Sea Shuttle Naturalist Mr Erikson was incredible with the kids and showed them all kinds of sea life on the pier as the crew prepared the boat for departure.
