What travelers are saying
- JanLiverpool, UK144 contributionsIf you aren’t at least moderately fit then don’t try this. You can get down to the canyon easy but to walk along to the falls is tough. In places you have to climb, jump down and have to watch your stepping at all times. A couple of places we had to cross across the water. Take shoes that can get wet and lots of fluid.
I would say this is at least moderate as a hike. It took us 3 hours with some time spent in the water.
The fall wasn’t that impressive due to the lack of rainfall/water. Although so worth it. The sights on the way are unbelievable and really breathtaking!Written May 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - karlthelawyerOlympia, WA31 contributionsThis was a fabulous hike. It’s an adventure, especially in spring, when you have to hop from rock-to-rock over the stream (or walk through the water, if that’s your jam). The scenery is stunning. This is the Disneyland of hikes (without the long lines or admission charges).
A couple notes. First, stick with it. The first mile or so isn’t scenic. You have to navigate private property with fences, but the trail is well-signed. Second, bring water, even on a cool day. There’s plenty of elevation gain, and it’s a workout.Written March 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelerCentralFLAClermont, FL1,867 contributionsMy son and I hiked up Wasson Peak on our visit to Saguaro National Park. The hike is somewhat challenging. It is a lot of hiking uphill and there are a good amount of switchbacks. The views along the hike are quite beautiful and there are Saguaro all around along with many other plant species. Once on top the view was wonderful. It was a beautiful day when we hiked and the sky was completely clear. I highly recommend a hike up to Wasson Peak if you enjoy hiking.Written March 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN6,573 contributionsFantastic hike on the King Canyon Trail in Saguaro National Park West to Wasson Peak. Arrive early to grab a parking spot at the trailhead and to beat the heat. Beautiful desert scenery all along the way surrounded by cacti. 1800ft moderately strenuous climb to Wasson Peak but well worth the effort with spectacular 360-degree views at the top. I returned on a portion of the Hugh Norris trail which eventually connected to the King Canyon Trail. I used the AllTrails App which is excellent. 7-mile hike took about 4 hours. Bring plenty of water and hiking poles.Written August 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Anne SWashington DC, DC134 contributionsGreat area for hiking - more than one marked trail with options to stay low among the saguaros or hike up and get great views. On the two trails I've taken, the upward hike was manageable with steady climbs and switchbacks. Bring water and binoculars.Written March 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- montanapescadoAlbuquerque, NM1,474 contributionsNice desert scenery here, easily accessed and not at all challenging. Worth a look if you're in the park, but not a destination in and of itself.Written March 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Twisted DaveMonticello, MN18 contributionsAwesome hike! Beautiful desert scenery. Plan on getting your feet wet crossing the river. Well worth the hike! It’s a moderate hike. There are picnic tables near the dam which is along the way if the falls hike is too aggressive for you!Written February 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John PTucson, AZ24 contributionsThe reviews that indicate that it is a hike for fit hikers are accurate. The first three miles are a good work out but the last 1.5 miles to the summit are challenging. The elevation climb is substantial for the distance and much of it is borderline scrambling. Add that to the false vistas and you have an adventure! I did this yesterday and much of the trail to the summit was covered with snow and ice, making it very exciting:)
Even in the winter you need to take plenty of water and basic survival supplies (just in case). I would not recommend this hike in the summer as there is very little shade and no water.Written January 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is a short flat asphalt trail that has plenty of cholla, prickly pear, and saguaro. We enjoyed our short walk here and saw a couple of rabbits. It is an easy trail that is perfect for any age.Written March 30, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- OutdoorKidzSaint Louis, MO857 contributionsWe picked up the Yetman Trail at the Camino de Oeste Trailhead. Pretty easy trail with great views and tons of saguaros to view all along the way. - Paul FColumbus Oh106 contributionsIt is a great place to bike from town and Cactus bloom in May before the June heat. The hillsides with Sonora Landscape is beautiful. - BruinDanFullerton, CA3,317 contributionsLocated in the Tucson Mountain District of Saguaro National Park, the Desert Discovery Nature Trail is a 0.4 mi/0.64 km paved loop just a short drive from the Visitor Center. The trail is pretty flat and quite family-friendly. It is really more of an interpretive nature walk, with many informative signs describing the flora and wildlife of Saguaro NP. And, there are some very impressive cacti along the way.
The Desert Discovery Nature Trail is perhaps the best way to be introduced to the wonders of Saguaro NP, and should definitely included at the top of your to-do list when visiting.Written March 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This trail is partially paved and can be accessed from the Cactus Forest Loop Road or from the Broadway Trailhead along the north border of the park. Easy walk. I came here specifically to capture photos of cacti at sunset as the parking lot is a short walk away after dark fallsWritten August 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
