- Luca_GioveToronto, Canada57 contributionsA little known place that certainly desves the visit. We were lucky that our visit, booked in advance, was in a moment with few people around, and mostly that we had the incomparable young guide appropriately named Guido. He is enthused about the place, its history and art.Written October 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - martine tLeiderdorp, The Netherlands2 contributionsIt was really fantastic. Benedetta is a lovely person. She and Peter take really great care for the horses and the people.
Its a warm welcome and you have time to connect with the horses before the trail.
The trail is amazing, stunning views and the landscape is perfect for riding.
My horse Morella was the best, so kind and sweet... My 6 year old daughter could sit on here when i was back.
I recommend this trail with lovely people and horses too anyone who think that taking care of Horses is number one!Written August 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Make sure you walk just beyond chapel to viewpoint. Stunning views across to Volterra. Walking here not for the faint hearted and driving up the hill challenging, but worth it!Written July 24, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReallyBadHat1,106 contributionsThere are some excellent cycling and walking routes centred on Montaione, we were mostly off road, the sections through the forests and countryside were exactly as you imagine Tuscany to be, vineyards, rolling countryside, rich dense forest.
Signs of boar and deer but all was saw were birds, lizards and a zillion bugs.
There were many walkers enjoying the countryside, for cyclists it is really challenging both down and up but truly rewarding.Written October 17, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is a really pretty resort with a gorgeous pool and beautiful vistas. I think it would be a great place to stay, too.Written June 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ReallyBadHat1,106 contributionsWe happened across it on Sunday morning after church had finished, hundreds spilling out and taking the chance to soak up the sunny morning and chat to friends.
A great occasion, a chance for us to take in the fashion and exuberance of the residents.
It has a restaurant and church.Written October 16, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The common services of the resort have been arranged in additional old houses, or in some cases (like the restaurant) in partially new buildings, but in architectural agreement with the ancient village.
During a trek of about 5 kms in the area, we made a short detour to visit Tonda. We thus walked through the alleys and small squares of the village, in the month of November, therefore during the winter closing period of the resort (we don't know if visitors from outside the resort can move around with equal ease during the opening period).
Walking there is obviously delightful: among other things, the village church still exists, complete with a plaque to the fallen of the two world wars. From the village some paths allow you to descend from the hill (which is "tonda", i.e. round, which would explain the name of the village), towards an artificial lake in the valley below.
In the past, Tonda was defined as a "castellare", that is, a settlement surrounded by walls. And in the past it had a large population, even over 300 inhabitants in the first half of the 19th century. Then the exodus of the peasants implied the depopulation of the village, up to the outcome we have described.Written November 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
