The first stone of the new basilica was laid May 26, 1609. The Basilica of San Giovanni Battista is a major place of Catholic worship in Busto Arsizio, dedicated to one of the patron saints. As the church of San Michele Arcangelo, this building stands on the ruins of a Lombard chapel of about eight meters wide.
In 1948 the church was elevated to the rank of minor basilica. [1]

The square-based bell tower, masonry view, dates back to the period between 1400 and 1418 [2]; It constitutes the oldest part of the present building.

The museum exhibits the massive machines that wove fabric in the 19th century, establishing Busto Arsizio as one of the key manufacturing areas. Admission is free and hours are well posted. I particularly liked the actual Jacquard Head that allowed programming of loom patterns.

I live near Parco Alto Milanese, but it’s so beautiful waking up in the morning and observe from my terrace my own home garden with springtime blooming more and more... I love living in the green....

Quite a nice church, has a tremendous tower with a bell. Great interior, very quiet during the day. There were few people inside. There are great statues on top of the church. One of them is the Michael Archangel.

Busto Arsizio has a lot of attractions to be seen including Piazza San Giovanni which is an imposing square in the centre of the city. La Basilica di San Giovanni Battista totally dominates the piazza and is an incredible sight. I visited in July 2020 shortly after lockdown restrictions were relaxed and the square was virtually deserted which made it easier to explore the area.

Nice little park close to the city center and the train station, with a cozy bar where we had a great aperitivo. Average prices but good quality of drinks food and service.
