Visit Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Information Center
#1 of 7 Traveler Resources in Anchorage
The volunteers and staff working at this charming Visitor Center were very helpful with ideas of what to do on a limited amount of time and offer you maps and booklets or what to do and see while visiting Anchorage.
Located on 4th avenue- the quintessential "tourist" area of downtown Anchorage...the visitors center is staffed by local volunteers eager to help answer questions, make recommendations or provide you directions.
Anchorage Center

The building is historic art deco, admission is free, and the offerings are National Park Service educational exhibits and a variety of films as well as a daily guided outdoor walking tour.
The 1964 earthquake documentary is among the best I have seen; we also enjoyed the history of the Alaskan railway and the volcanos and bears movie!
Begich Boggs Visitor Center Girdwood
#3 of 7 Traveler Resources in Anchorage
Housed in the Center are great displays of wildlife, native culture, explorers and settlers, info about the huge earthquake and tsunami of 1964 that destroyed towns and villages, a few interactive exhibits.
Okay, to be honest, I stopped to use the restrooms, but the Begich Boggs Visitor Center has some great exhibits of the animals and geology of this incredible little corner of Alaska.
