- Konstantia MPiraeus, Greece1,574 contributionsWe took an 8 hrs tour with Alaska Tour & Travel from Anchorage. We moved by bus, train and boat. The excursion was well organized, we saw plenty of wildlife (sea lions, seals, birds) nature (forests, lakes) and glaciers. Better go by bus and return by Alaska Express, across the hole peninsula! The boat was moved very close to the –ice covered- land, so we could a lot of pictures. Got close up with several of large glaciers and we experienced to watch -live- an ice melting (sounds like earthquake)! Amazing experience, do not miss it! Make sure that you will wear warm clothes and have a raincoat!Written March 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - luckyvColdwater, OH116 contributionsOur family took a Kenai Fjords tour of Resurrection Bay. The scenery is awesome when out on the water. I would highly recommend taking a boat tour to immerse oneself in the beauty.Written October 30, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Midwestern F7 contributions"Small, yet mighty!" This is the mantra of the SeaLife Center.
I despise zoos, but loved this place! The animals and creatures were tenderly cared for and loved.
I verbally interacted with Pilot, the male sea lion. When I turned my back to talk to the harbor seals, Pilot climbed on a rock and bellowed until he got my attention again. This was amazing- highly intelligent and intuitive creatures!
Then, I visited the water fowl room - what a fantastic experience! Jennifer, a staff member, was monitoring the room. She educated us about the birds; their names; and personalities, including social groups. The birds swam up to you literally inches away. I had to restrain myself from reaching out to pet them. You could tell Jennifer truly loved her job by her enthusiasm and watchful eye on guests & birds.
While there, one naughty bird jumped out of his enclosure and landed on the floor. He had imprinted on another staff member. If this bird wants to see her, he throws himself out of their habitat - and waits for someone to get her- so she can hold him & tell us about their bond and with her children. During mating season, this naughty "Romeo" of a bird will knock on the exhibit's door with his beak until she gets him to be by her while she works.
Furthermore, I learned that the sea water in the exhibits is constantly exchanged with the water from Resurrection Bay so that they animals have a "live" experience during various seasons. This truly warmed my heart.
I live in the Midwest, but I would travel 2 days again to visit Seward's SeaLife Center! As I type this, I can honestly say that I miss Pilot, the harbor seals, and all the birds with their personalities!Written May 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Mitch and Jace were our guides and they were amazing (try to get them!). Their energy and excitement were infectious and it was hard not to get excited about the trip and seeing all the sights.
I’m addition to the awe-inspiring glaciers and waterfalls, we saw sea lions, harbor seals (some were curious and followed us), and some river otters! The whales were shy and didn’t pop up to say hi, but it didn’t detract from the amazing trip.
A few tips: 1) wear LAYERS; 2) have waterproof rain jacket and pants; and 3) accept the fact that you will get wet and cold despite #1 and 2. Also, bring Dramamine as a precaution even if you don’t normally get sea sick.Written May 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We saw a couple of calvings, the noise is amazing.Written May 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- catpeople1000Gainesville, FL18 contributionsWe were in town the week before the Mt. Marathon Race and visited friends at Brownell Inn at the base of the mountain. During the week we met several people who were there training for the
race by running the trail. It is said to be the toughest 5k on the planet. Seward celebrates the race every year when people from all over the world come to compete and enjoy being in such a glorious place and time. We walked part way up and got a real feel for what race day must be like. In it's own way it is a wonder of the world!Written August 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Handoc14St. Thomas26 contributionsA local in Seward told us to check this place out. It's one of the structures where they monitor the almon population. Staff were friendly and informative, explaining every step of the process. It was worth stopping just to see the stream below the weir PACKED with salmon.Written January 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael WRedding, CT1,106 contributionsWe headed here as soon as we got into town as we had some time on our hands and it was a gorgeous warm September day. We sat right next to the sea on one of the picnic tables and ate snacks/had a few drinks while watching the marine traffic and fish jumping. What a serene place. We’d love to go back.Written September 21, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Betty M10 contributionsWe thoroughly enjoyed both the museum and library. The museum for the exhibits so lovingly collected and displayed. You could tell there was great pride in this small museum. with teachers in the family, I especially enjoyed the stories about the Seward teachers who collaborated on an Iditarod run and the contest for the state flag. The documentary presented in the library about the 1964 earthquake was quite professional and very informative. This was an afternoon well-spent.Written September 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- catpeople1000Gainesville, FL18 contributionsOur family has a number of mountain climbing Mt. Marathon racers so for the rest of us we need something a little less challenging. The Two Lakes Park is right in town and is a beautiful place to walk casually with only a slight level of difficulty. And there are plenty of places along the way to rest and just dawdle. They signs suggest you be on the lookout and take your bear spray but I didn't ever feel like we were in a dangerous situation although everyone should always be prepared in Alaska. This is just a lovely park to enjoy without overdoing it! You can take the kids here no problem.Written August 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Btowntraveler80Madison, WI104 contributionsThis was a touch more strenuous than expected, but SO worth it. The chance to walk on the beach and to view the salmon spawning, see the wide expanse of Resurrection Bay, and to soak up the peace of Seward was a true treat.Written September 7, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - charlesisgriggLas Vegas, NV24 contributionsSeward is a small fishing village with A LOT of history. I highly recommend the trip. On this trip we stopped by Exit Glacier which is stunning. The park rangers are eager to help and give private tours!Written December 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lori TDawsonville, GA2,502 contributionsAfter visiting Bear Creek Weir, we continued down the road for about half a mile to a somewhat obscure parking area with a bulletin board. On the board was a hand-written sign dated from earlier in the week about an aggressive brown bear with 2 cubs. We decided to continue along the trail into the woods, but we sang and clapped and made plenty of noise. The trail is very clear and level and easy to navigate. There are side trails over to the bank of the lake. The view is so beautiful that we almost missed the spawning salmon that were swimming right at our feet near the bank. If you are looking for an off-the-beaten-bath adventure, I recommend a hike around bear lake - just watch for the bears!Written August 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
