Agree with all the reviews. It’s a must see memorial to Katrina victims, but it only takes a few minutes to take it in. The benches are black and burning hot so there is no where to sit and reflect. Combine it with a street car trip to city park or the museum. It’s worth visiting once.

Joan of Arc rides with strength and power, symbolizing unconquerable New Orleans. This was a surprising find on our walk in the French Quarter.

Erected in 1995 and appropriately sculpted by an immigrant, the beautiful white marble statue 'Monument to the Immigrant', links the port city of New Orleans with its past. It is appropriately situated on the riverfront which, probably, would have been the first piece iof solid earth on which the immigrants would have stood on their arrival. This sculpture of two distinct sides, one side looking like the prow of an old sailing ship and the other being a family of iommigrants, is ell worth stopping to have a look at you are walking along the riverfront.

I saw this statue as we got off the bus before checking into the Hyatt. After we checked in I went back and looked closer at it. Given the history it is fitting that the statue is in front of an abandoned building.

If you like to take a picture here, you need to go before 7 because this old man comes and puts some chains exactly at 7 and does not let you do anything else, great place to rest and take some pictures and of course enjoy the statue.

I'd actually learned a little bit about the story of this tomb from the previous review.

Then on the first full night in New Orleans, the tour guide for the Drunk History Tour (that starts at Harry's Corner) explained it as well.

It is near the main entrance of the cemetery. Coming into the cemetery, it'll be off to the right a bit, and looks just like a castle. It's a seriously beautiful tomb, but it just has a negative history. It is fully paved around it and has been meticulously maintained.

Old Lady Skelly grew tired of her daughter's spending habits, so at the last blowout, she decided to ensure her daughter wouldn't spent eternity with her in her tomb, so she built one just for herself and her dog.

It's kind of sad to think that money can truly be the downfall of a family. But it happens all the time to all kinds of families, from the wealthy to the non.

So think about it as a way to remember that's not how you want to leave this Earth, with grudges over money and being spiteful.
Spend more time loving each other, as time goes way too fast.

Your last days should be filled with love, joy and positive memories.

There's way too much stress out on money, and how to spend it instead of enjoying spending time in each other's company.

So this is definitely an unique statue. Found in the New Orleans Museum of Art Sculpture Garden, is this very interesting exhibit.

It's made up of monkeys with human arms and hands, all tangled up in a pile of shiny stainless steel. It gives me seal/gazelle/tree branch vibes too.

Art is never to be completely understood.

So think up your own ideas about this piece. Is it evolution, or animal life in nature, or something else?

Sidewalk is paved, however, the area directly around the art is not, so be careful.

The Mother River Statute is located in New Orleans. It’s dedicated to the infamous Mississippi River that runs alongside and sometimes thru the City.

Although right at the sidewalk, you could easily miss seeing it with all the hustle and bustle in the area. It’s still worth a quick stop to read the plaque and appreciate this iconic artist.

It had been several years, since we had stayed on Canal St in New Orleans, but my wife was attending a symposium at the Sheraton Hotel, so we were spending more time on Canal St, than usual. We set out on a beautiful December Monday, to head to the back of the French Quarter, and to a “Champagne shop,” on Rampart St. As it had been quite a while, since we walked the area, we detoured around Rampart St, to Basin St, and then a bit of a zig zag through “Storyville” and finally back to the French Quarter.

I had forgotten about the statue to the Venezuelan military leader, Simon Bolivar, right at Basin St and Canal. What I also was unaware of, was that this was the 60th anniversary of the dedication of that statue. Unfortunately, our trip was just about two weeks late.

The statue is very nice, with a planted area around part of the base. Also, more than just a tribute to a South American military leader, it signifies the strong trade ties between the City of New Orleans, and all of South America, not just Venezuela.

It appeared that some renovation had been done on the statue – probably for the 60th anniversary? – as it looked to be in better condition, than I recalled from when we lived in the City.

Definitely worth a stop, and considering the renovations and re-purposing of so much of that area of Canal and Basin Streets, it’s also a good vantage point, to take it all in. After about 20 mins, we were off to Storyville, Rampart St and Champagne – only to find the Champagne shop closed on Monday!

This statue is of a ladder hanging out of a window.

You'll see it in the Sculpture Garden of the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Comprised of metal, steel, fiberglass, and aluminum, it is set back in the landscaping. Just off the paved sidewalk.

What could it mean? Escaping danger in the home? A zombie apocalypse? Escaping your mind?

Art can have so many meanings, depending on who is viewing it.

This statue sits just inside the main entrance of the St Louis Cemetery No 3 by the Mother Teresa statue, but back a bit to the left.

Padre Pio, according to Wikipedia, was an Italian friar, priest, stigmatist, and mystic, although I'm not sure what most of those mean in terms that explain him best.
I don't want to explain too much, as that would be running the lines of plagiarism.
But if you research him, you should find what you are wanting to know.

In Armstrong Park, and not that far from the statue of Louis Armstrong, is an interesting statue which is well worth going to have a look at. This is a statue of Charles "Buddy" Bolden. Charles Bolden, a ragtime music player, played a looser, more improvised version of that music, which later became known as jazz. For this reason, Charles Bolden is regarded by some as the 'father of jazz'. To Bolden his music was everything and, when playing, he had the ability to completely lose himself in the music he was playing. To his fans, this became known as "the trance". This statue of Charles "Buddy" Bolden portrays three men playing and some say that this shows his unstable mental state. An interesting
