Great Sand Dunes National Park

Great Sand Dunes is one of my family's favorite locations in Colorado Great for the scenic dunes and mountains, great to just let the kids run wild in the massive dune field, wonderfully dark skies at night.
Gorgeous setting at the base of stunning 14,000 foot peaks, this place offers family fun, fitness adventures, and great beauty!

We stopped there on the way north from the great dunes to Salide, this place is an awesome stop with the kids, our 11,7,2 years old enjoyed very much, they let you pet a giant turtle, hold a baby gator, a snake an...
My kids loved feeding the alligators and being able to hold a lizard, a gator, and a huge snake.

Anita and I had a speedy and super time coming down...it's like being a kid again on the dunes on the beach in California...except a lot more fun.
Between the altitude and trying to carry out two kids up the dunes, we only made it about halfway!! Loved it though!

We loved getting our feet in the water and just enjoyed the feeling of the water, the view of the massive sand dunes and the sounds of children playing.
When the creek flows, it is a cool hangout for kids and adults a like, providing a beach like experience in the middle of the mountains.

I would recommend this for older children, youngsters might get bored and restless.
I probably would not recommend this for small children as they would become bored just looking out the window, but as a couple we very much enjoyed a very beautiful, relaxing day trip.
