Since then, I've completed Double Sidemount training with her and am close to finishing my Dive Master course as well. I went from being a fair vacation diver to being a much improved Technical diver in 2 months and will soon be a dive professional under Sandra's tutelage. She is thorough, meticulous, extremely knowledgeable and experienced- she has dived all over the world and continues her own training regularly which is immensely beneficial to us students. - bennyhannahmama1 contributionWe won the Google Search jackpot by finding Zb and Tec Dive Nomad when looking for a scuba shop to dive with on our trip to Utila.
My husband and I each had a few dozen dives under our belts and a few certifications from different places throughout the US, but our instructors, dive masters, and experiences paled in comparison to our experiences with TDN.
From the very first email I sent Zb inquiring about working with him, he was a consummate professional responding in great detail to any questions we had either technical or logistical and provided a plethora of options for the layout of our days. Zb remained in touch with us on a regular basis and did all that he could from afar to make sure we were prepped for our trip.
Once we arrived on the island, Zb continued to be a great resource to us, explaining the best ways to navigate around the island, providing us with the names/numbers of very reliable (and English speaking) taxi drivers, and other details making our trip more enjoyable.
Zb and his crew were very familiar with the dive sites around the island and took us to many different sites for all different experiences. We really appreciated how thorough they were about gear checking, setup, etc. all while remaining light-hearted and fun.
Knowing that we were diving with someone who had such extensive experience and knowledge about diving and safety made everything more relaxing and enjoyable for me and the safety measures and devices in place on the boat helped solidify that.
My husband was able to confidently complete his Deep Diver certification with Zb and I completed a Refresher certification as well as Advanced Buoyancy both of which made me so much more comfortable in the water than I have ever been.

Allow me to highlight the exceptional staff and their unwavering dedication to ensuring an unforgettable experience:
First and foremost, Siah, our culinary wizard, not only delighted our taste buds but also created a warm and inviting atmosphere that felt like home, no matter how far from home we were. Charlotte, with her therapeutic massages, eased away the stress that had accumulated during these challenging times. And let's not forget Kasa, the master mixologist, whose cocktail alchemy turned each sip into a memorable experience. I'm immensely grateful to Lotu, Freddy, and Niu for their steadfast support as I navigated the ocean's currents, ensuring my safety and comfort. The entire team's commitment to making our stay secure and enjoyable was truly outstanding. A special mention goes to Leo, THE COOLEST resort owner, who not only crafts a killer margarita but is always ready to assist with any needs.
The food at Sau Bay Resorts was a sheer delight. The meals were not only delicious but also thoughtfully balanced and made from the freshest ingredients. The culinary harmony of passion fruit, coconut, papaya, and Fijian rum left a lasting impression. Siah's passionfruit cheesecake was nothing short of divine; it's a taste that will stay with me for years to come.
The scuba dives were nothing short of exceptional. As a newly certified diver, this trip marked my return to the underwater world, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The attentive staff ensured our safety, helped us with our gear, and pointed out mesmerizing sea creatures as we explored the depths. Safety is paramount to me when traveling, and they exceeded all expectations. The Cabbage Patch, my personal favorite dive site, was a serene and vibrant underwater oasis. When the sun illuminated the area just right, it felt like I had been transported to an alien world. If you seek a surreal underwater experience, this is an absolute must-visit.
Moving on to accommodations:
Wi-Fi is available in the common room/dining area, but do keep in mind that this is a remote island, and connectivity can be challenging. However, Leo was in the process of installing Starlink during my stay, which should improve connectivity in the future.
The rooms were consistently clean and fresh. The dedicated staff attended to daily chores such as bed-making, trash removal, and refreshing towels. While the rooms were generally comfortable, some extra ventilation, like a standing fan, would have been appreciated, especially given the humidity at night. If you opt for the TreeHouse, you'll enjoy superior ventilation and cooler, more restful nights.
A few reminders for future travelers:
1. Be prepared to embrace the tropical environment; bring mosquito repellent that is reef-friendly. You'll encounter diverse and awe-inspiring wildlife on the island.
2. Act responsibly by using reef-safe sunscreen, respecting the natural habitat you're privileged to visit.
3. Stay hydrated by bringing liquid IV or electrolytes, especially in the tropical climate.
4. Approach this journey with an open mind, and you'll leave Sau Bay Resorts forever changed, with unforgettable memories etched in your heart.
