The National 9/11 Memorial & Museum
#1 of 333 Museums in New York City
Very tasteful and powerful museum with multimedia artifacts from 9/11 including real artifacts, tv/radio footage and photos make it one of the best memorial museums I've been too.
We always visit museums early and that is the sound advice I provide for any museum, but for this museum it is a necessity if you want easy access to the displays especially if you want to photograph them.

Possibly the best thing about this and other museums in NYC is just how clean they are, and how everyone is so helpful.

This is a must, it is very different from the other museums but exceptionally informative and lots of art, artist from all over the world, some were just amazing.
Also, like most of the major NYC art museums (Whitney, the Met, and Guggi), if you are a docent from another art museum anywhere in the country, bring your credentials, and you and a guest get in free - such a nic...

If you’re interested in learning something new but are tired of the intense crowds of the city’s larger and more prestigious museums we highly recommend checking out the KGB spy museum!
The gift shop is also worth mentioning because while small, it had some wonderfully quirky items alongside the usual fare of history museums.

... I thought I'd check it out - they have free entrance on Friday nights that start at 7. It is a lovely place and while the exhibits are small compared to other museums, the library was so ornate and breathtaking.

This is a miniature museum which takes you around the world, albeit a miniature world replete with the colosseum, Eiffel Tower, the trains of switzerland, the Panama Canal, the beaches of Rio etc.

I've studied US History, I love going to "living history" museums, and this is one of the best places I've ever seen for teaching emigrant and urban life history.
While you can visit art and history museums across the world, the Tenement Museum is a unique experience to New York which allows you to understand the hardships faced by America's immigrants.

Among all the skyscrapers and the museums in Manhattan, you can sometimes feel a little landlocked and forget you are on an island.

The New York Historical Society museum is a hidden gem that lets you concentrate more thoroughly compared to some of the larger museums where you can quickly become overwhelmed.

The museum itself is nicely run by a friendly staff, and it provides an interesting glimpse into narrow and confining life of a president who was bigger than all outdoors.
In addition to the house tour, you can also see a half-hour video about TR's boyhood and a small museum showing items, texts, and pictures about TR.
