I wish I could give more than 5 for these guys and gals. Got our tix on short notice but they have many dates sold out even months in advance. Best categorized as a dinner show, it is very good food and a really neat show.

I won't give anything away, which means I won't tell you nearly any details. Here's what Ill tell you:
    The food is very good.
    Full bar.
The entertainment, including the food, is great.
It will take most of the evening.
It's a wonderful date venue. Small, cozy, and good wait staff.
Hands down the best dinner show I've been to.

My son and I went, and the language is a smidge coarse, but probably not as bad as he gets into in online gaming or at school. Don't let this keep you from experiencing this wonderful adventure.

We spent a week in San Diego with our adult children and their partners. We attended the Mystery Cafe Dinner Theater on our last evening. It was the perfect finish to a fun vacation.
I called the theater the morning of the show and spoke to Mary, a co-owner and spouse of one of the actors, who also wrote the play. They run a very organized event. Mary remembered us when we arrived and inquired about our day (and remembered what we had done). We felt well taken care of.
This is, as the name suggests, a dinner theater. Everything (except the food, which is provided by the adjacent Imperial restaurant) is organized by the actors. They greet you at the door, take you to your table and serve the food, all whilst remaining in character. The play we watched was called "Nobody's got a Clue", loosely based on the boardgame of the same name. We were seated by the Butler and our food was served by another character.
Although there is a script, there is lots of audience participation and therefor improvisation based on audience reaction. Somehow my daughter's boyfriend became the butt of many jokes due to his wearing a plaid shirt, and was invited into several scenes.
Although there is lots of innuendo, there is no nudity or foul language. The performance would be appropriate for preteens.
There were tip envelopes on the tables but there was no pressure to tip. No one stands at the door with their hands out. In fact, since I was uncomfortable leaving the money on the table, I tracked down Mary to hand over our tip, as the actors were busy having a good time taking pictures with members of the audience.

Girlfriend and I sat with two other couples. All were compatible and fun. Food was good and servers friendly and efficient. Parking was within a block of the venu- a real plus in California. One of the couples we were seated with really got into solving the mystery. The other couple was somewhat involved. My date thought the evening enjoyable, but made no effort to participate,- I was bored. I had never been to a Murder Mystery theater before and was glad i went. I thought it a mixed group, some were very involved in solving the murder while others sat around and talked amongst themselves.
