We found great results, but some are outside Big Bend National Park. Showing results in neighboring cities.

Chisos Mountains

My 2-day agenda and recommendations for a busy and thorough visit: I hiked the South Rim loop, the Emory Peak trail, the Lost Mine Trail, some of the short nature trails in the valley, camped and even watched some...
For cooler temperatures, amazing views and some of the best hiking in BB, Chisos mountains are a must visit if you have at least two days in the park (visit the desert one day and the mountains the next).

The Grapevine Hills Trail which leads to the Balanced Rock is one of the must do trails in Big Bend National Park.

The South Rim Loop

This hike is a MUST! Park volunteer recommended ascending the Pinnacles and we are so glad we did.

The Boquillas Canyon Trail is all the way down at the bottom tip of the park near the border crossing and is a moderate 1.4 mile hike down to the river and to the canyon cut.

Emory Peak
#8 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
From the Chisos Mountain Lodge (trailhead) its about a 6-7 hours round trip to the summit and back to the car park.
Being the highest peak in the park, and the sixth highest in Texas, it is a necessary hike when visiting Big Bend.

Closed Canyon Lajitas
#1 of 2 Nature & Parks in Lajitas
I think this trail was our favorite of every trail we did at both Big Bend NP and state park.
It was as probably as neat as hiking into the Santa Elena Canyon in the National Park, which I would describe as moderate but short.

Rio Grande
#10 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
My husband and I enjoyed the Rio Grande River from Presidio, TX to Santa Elena Canyon on the west side of Big Bend National park to Boquillas Canyon on the east side of Big Bend National park.
One reason this is tough is because there are a lot of places in Big Bend National Park (and also in nearly-adjacent Big Bend Ranch State Park), where you can get a great view of the Rio Grande, and sometimes actu...
Rio Grande Village Nature Trail
#11 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
Drive to the easternmost point edge of the campground and walk the nature trail through a wetland, up a bluff (a bit strenuous) and have a striking view of two mountain ranges, a big bend on the Rio Grande River,...
The Nature signs or markers have long since vanished, but it's still a peaceful walk, especially in the evening.
Sam Nail Ranch
#12 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
When we got home I ordered the book "Beneath the Window" by Patricia Clotheir, who grew up at Big Bend before it was a national park; the Nails were her family's closest neighbors.

There were plenty of wildflowers to keep you attentive, just watch out for all the rocks; which applies to every hike in the park.
Dog Canyon
#22 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
So many different areas within the park.
Cattail Falls Trail
#23 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
It is not listed in any of the park literature probably because they want to keep it unspoiled.
Panther Path Trail
#24 of 34 Nature & Parks in Big Bend National Park
We toured the short walk with curiosity to what was growing within the park and found a plethora of information and history of the plant life.

We did this hike from outside Big Bend National park.
Park by the kiosk.
Mariscal Canyon

We did not see another person on the hike (or even on the drive in) so it was one of the most solitary experiences we've had in any National Park.
