What travelers are saying
- MrsE3Newcastle upon Tyne, UK168 contributionsGreat tour with insight into the prison and life on the island. If you are in San Francisco then this is must visit. Really well organised and you can take your time exploring as there are ferries leaving all day.Written October 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - H99Leicester, UK70 contributionsIconic must see attraction. We walked from our hotel around the bay and through Crissy Fields to the bridge. Seeing the bridge from this viewpoint is incredible. Be prepared though, the bridge was completely covered in fog at times. We walked the bridge and whilst San Fran was hot, it was very cold up there. We then continued to walk to Sausalito which is lovely and then caught the ferry back to Pier 39.Written October 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MDaleYork, UK174 contributionsTook a trip today - it had to be done when I San Francisco!
The whole experience was great and we got to see so much more than on the bus tours.
Sure, there are the usual rude people that barge the queue / line but the staff are great and things run well.

The best way to appreciate this road is to walk up the back way up Hyde Street, which is steep in places. When you get to the top of will probably join a crowd of people taking pictures, so be patient. You can also take a cable car most of the way if you don't fancy the walking up the hill. You can walk down on either side of the road, or if you are driving you can, like many people, drive down Lombard Street. The best place to take pictures once you reach the bottom is from over the road.Written September 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - goldenparadoxPasadena, MD587 contributionsYes, Pier 39 is a tourist trap, but it's so convenient and nice. There are lots of food options, many of which have counter service and then they bring food to you or you can do take out. Makes it convenient for families/groups who can't agree on one place to eat but want to eat together. A bonus is that it's easy to find a spot to eat with views of the water. The souvenir shops are some of the best I found in SF and prices were consistent with shops around SF. They also have a few specialty shops. As far as entertainment, there's a carousel ($7 per ride), 4D movie thing, bungee cord jump thing and more. My favorite entertainment was the seals and pelicans on the pier. The seals were so entertaining, you could literally watch them for hours.Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Eva TUnited Kingdom4,799 contributionsIt was our first time in San Francisco and we took cable car from Downtown. The ride down the last steep hill - Hyde Street was amazing. When we arrived we walked mainly along Jefferson Street where are various restaurants, Maritime National Historical Park Visitor Center was worth to visit as well as a few gift shops and, of course, sea lions. We spotted Madame Tussauds Museum but we didn't enter, basically there are many good and less good places for tourists like us. But if you are in the city for the first time you should go there and you can make your own judgement.Written September 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DMC1958Huddersfield, UK259 contributionsIf you are a Disney fan or just interested in how Disney came into being, then this is a must visit.
This is not the easiest place to find and not too clearly signposted. However, it is well worth a visit. There is a lot to take in as it retraces the family history back several generations. It informs in great detail the journey of Walt and Roy Disney, the challenges, failures and successes on their journey. The ground floor is full of the many awards collected over the years. Upstairs the family history and the development and growth of the Walt Disney Company.
There is an interesting story about a conversation between Walt and Roy over the purchase of the land in Florida, where Disney World would eventually be established,
A really enjoyable experience.Written September 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Every time I travel to SF I find time to visit the Exploratorium because there is so much to do with my granddaughters and I could never finish exploring the hands-on science exhibits that enthrall all of us. Good for ALL ages. I cannot say enough about the learning that happens while you spend the day. There is even a cafe. Easily take a day or two or .... Great place! Nice people working there.Written December 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Lindsey MEdmonton, Canada84 contributionsI attended a baseball game with my son and husband in August. It was soooo much fun. I have never been in such a beautiful facility to watch a sporting event! Even just walking up front the outside was so cool. I loved the view from our seats in section 312. Tickets were super reasonable. It was easy to find our seats, as well as other spots we wanted to see. Food and drinks were plentiful with many choices for all tastes. It was also easy to access using public transportation.Written September 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brooke In The AirCleveland, OH344 contributionsAn extremely fun park, second only to New York City's central park, full of arenas and concerts, the San Francisco Botanical Garden, the California Academy of Sciences, the Japanese Tea Garden. - Jim U23 contributionsLooks great in the pictures, but way more massive in real life! It's worth a ride around, especially at night. - Thomas VOakland, CA17,709 contributionsThis is where one goes for the great view down Market Street. And it can be very windy and refreshing. And you will see all the way over to Oakland and beyond. But beware of car break-ins in the parking lot, so don't keep anything in your trunk or the back of your car, or on the seat. The car should be empty. And then you can relax.Written September 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GrandTour343986012564 contributionsExpensive. At $40 it is really costly for a family. There is lots to see and I understand the price because what they have takes a lot of upkeep. While the building is handicap accessible, the rain forest is not. Unfortunately, you cannot start at the top and work your way down.Written August 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HuskerTraveler2Lincoln, NE1,227 contributionsThis massive 1918 covered loading dock has been nicely updated to house a large number of eateries (from Filipino to burgers to coffee and ice cream).
Table seating is sparse. A great view of the Bay Bridge and active harbor is easily accessible.

A picturesque walkable national park area that's full of so much history.
Remnants of some of the buildings of Adolph Sutro's legacy remains which you can still appreciate.
Do remember to visit the National Park office where you can learn about the unique landscape, geology, habitats, foliage and fauna of the area as well as about the shipwrecks offshore.
There are cool memorabilia on display and artifacts from the Victorian-era Cliff House and baths.
You can easily spend 2 hours here walking the coastal trail and taking in the amazing views! Enjoy!Written September 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
