We had the pleasure today of going on the cable cars
One of the conductors names was Juan Bartholomew. He was a wealth of information and terrifically nice. It was an absolute pleasure riding on his cable car.
    Thanks Juan

The streetcars, while old, look very chic and exude a very San Francisco vibe. We just hopped on to one from the Fisherman's wharf and took a day pass ($5 per person) on instinct. That turned out to be an excellent decision! The streetcars have been procured from all parts of US and have been restored to a wonderful condition. There is a distinct old-world charm to the streetcars. It rambles along at a fairly slow clip from Fisherman's wharf along the Embarcadero. It is like a step back in time, with the driver ringing a bell when the streetcar starts after stopping. The streetcar stops at multiple piers along the way before it turns away and heads downtown. We got to see some of the magnificent skyscrapers without getting off the streetcar. We rode it in all the way to the last stop (Castro), then hopped off and got on the same car to the ride back to Embarcadero. It is an excellent way to take in some of the San Franciso downtown sights (we got to see a couple of driverless cars along the ride as well!).

This is a cool place by the sea to see how they turn the cable car manually.
Even if you're not planning to ride the cable car, it's still fun to visit and see the cable car in action.
