I went to the store area of the Chinse Cultural Center. They had some cute kids books for the upcoming Chinese New Years (Year of the Rat).

It was a quick visit this time as they were int he midst of setting up a new art exhibit. The new art collection willl be available to see February 8, 2020.

I saw the photographs of the rock stars from the 60's, including an upstairs pass to the orginal Abby Road photographs and more recent "pop" and political icons. The gallery staff were pleasant and low key with no pressure to buy. We were allowed to simply enjoy the display. They said they frequently handle this type of material.

We have previously purchased from ZK’s sister gallery, Eden Fine Art (right next door), and have always enjoyed the variety of mediums exhibited. Our interest this time was focused on two Charles Fazzino pieces that we have seen at other galleries. The ‘owner’, Eric, and the gallery director, Fiona, we’re great to work with. Eric loves to chat, and worked with us on pricing for both pieces. After a second visit, we made a deal (shipping included). We are familiar with the pricing on these pieces by other galleries, and felt that Eric gave us a very fair price. If you’re on or near the wharf, stop by and enjoy the art. It’s not inexpensive; but rest assured, if you like something and are willing to do some negotiating, you’ll receive a very fair price with shipping included.

Super duper display of 🎶 musicology of the bay area. Which is pretty provincial and doesn't provide sufficient space for other national music such as blues, jazz, hip hop etc.

Affordable. A little of traveling with your mind once you are at Xela!
Lovely atmosphere. Great selection of incense, palo santo etc. The jewelry is so different from what you see around.

On January 18, I attended the opening of Berggruen's latest show, John Alexander: Landscape and Memory & Mark di Suvero: Sculpture. I have enjoyed the events I've attended at the gallery. This was my second opening and in November I attended an artist talk on the works of Helen Frankenthaler, subject of their last show. The talk was led by two very knowledgeable scholars, and was very informative. The Frankenthaler paintings were beautiful and evocative.

This opening, like the previous one, was well-attended. The di Suvero and Alexander works are obviously not as important as the Frankenthalers, but were interesting on their own and in juxtaposition; the sculptures are abstract and the paintings are figurative.

In addition to the usual white wine and sparkling water, the gallery served vodka and some juices. In addition, the artists were in attendance. The facility itself is very impressive, an ultra modern space in a historic building. It's three floors are connected by a gorgeous glass and stainless steel staircase. (There is also an elevator.). I highly recommend a visit to Berggruen, especially because it's located across the street from SFMOMA and in between two other excellent galleries, Gagosian and Crown Point Press, which are also worth a stop.

Heart street has some of the main Chinese art shops in Chinatown. They all sell the same stuff and it’s hard to tell if it’s real or copies….

I'd usually avoid an exhibition this small unless I'm really interested in what it covers. But this one, on the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus type design, was packed with examples, most from the early decades. It was fascinating. (It also helped that I could get in free through my membership with NARM, North American Reciprocal Museums.)

The entrance isn't marked. I've included a photo of it. The sign listing building tenants shows two different street addresses in (it seems) the same building. We were lucky that we met someone coming out of the building to tell us what to do. You might call ahead for directions.

As the previous reviewer so eloquently described, a visit to the well-preserved and managed home of the celebrated west coast conceptual artist David Ireland is a very special treat. The house and its contents are his greatest work of art. It is also a superb introduction to conceptual art in its many forms and styles.

Small group tours must be booked online. And the artist guides are great. Counter balance your trip to the incredible new and huge SFMOMA with a visit to this modest but fascinating house in the Mission District.

Nice shop with some interesting pieces, but way over the top for most tourists. A local might find something they like here. I was offered the two leather sofas for $2,000.

I was visiting SF for a few weeks and walked around the city to see many of the sites. Although I saw dozens of iconic landmarks, nothing was as stunning and memorable as the wild parrots flying around Telegraph Hill!

One generally associates parrots with the jungles of a tropical location, yet living in the middle of urban SF is a huge population of wild parrots. The parrot flock began in the early 90s when one pair of escaped cherry-headed conures (a small parrot species) quickly found an ecological niche on Telegraph Hill. They were joined by other escaped conures from around the city. After a couple generations of offspring, the flock had grown to over 200 wild parrots by 2005. Today, the parrots of Telegraph Hill can be spotted all over the city.

Worth the trek to Telegraph Hill to grab a glimpse. We saw a huge flock where the Greenwich Steps intersect with Montgomery Street.
