- Donna T1 contributionThis was a very good, in depth audio tour of the inside of the prison. transportation to and from Alcatraz Island was clean and reliable. My Grandboys 17.18,9 loved the experience as did I.
The tour package we purchased included a cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge. The Alcatraz ferry trip over to the prison started on time at 3:20. It was a great way to get an overview of the area and lay of the land. It made the last half of my vacation when I used public transportation to get around a little easier because I was a bit more familiar with some of the areas. This bus is also a great way to get around and see "smaller sites" that don't take more than 15-20 minutes. The buses came often enough that I didn't have to wait very long at any one stop. I was probably on 4 or 5 different buses and some drivers were definitely more friendly and entertaining although all drivers were friendly and informative. The tour narration is pre-recorded and you listen via headphones they give you. Some of the time the timing was a little off and the narration occurred after we passed the thing/building it was talking about. Like any city, some parts aren't very pretty and there's nothing to look at and you do get a look at some of the not-so-nice parts of town, but it didn't take away from the amazing views of the majority of the ride. - Jon W3 contributionsMuir Woods was breathtakingly beautiful, very accessible to us by taking this tour from San Francisco.
Our driver, Adolfo, gave very informative and amusing commentary the entire route from pickup to Muir Woods which highlighted many famous spots of San Francisco we may not otherwise have seen on our trip.
Sausalito was also lovely to visit, we elected to take the ferry back so had a lot of freedom in choosing how long we spent there.
The ferry back also gave great views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge (which had unfortunately been covered in fog when we passed over as we took an early morning tour) before returning us to the Piers which has many other tourist attractions.

- Rebekah S1 contributionDidn't book early enough to get alcatraz tickets from the official provider. Ended up buying this package on TripAdvisor which had availability instead. Wasn't so sure about it at first but the owner of the shop is so so friendly and everything worked out really smoothly. Ended up cycling across the golden gate bridge which was amazing. If you can sort out overnight bike storage then you can return them by 10am the next day. We opted for the sunset cruise, which sailed around Alcatraz Island, Angel Island, under the Golden Gate bridge… At sunset. It was beautiful, photos were fabulous, the sunset was gorgeous… The only thing I would recommend is dress warm. - Richard H23 contributionsThis was the best way to see San Francisco! Small group in a VW bus, we got in and out places where larger tour buses can't even dream of going! Going down Lombard Street, people were taking pictures of us flashing us the peace sign, I truly felt like a rockstar on tour! But I know the star was our "Love Tour" bus! Our guide Cyrus was informative and passionate about his city, giving us all kinds of insights of San Francisco through the eyes of local! A lot of walking uphills. The tour guide was great and I especially loved the walking Audio .
