My partner and I wanted to do something to explore the city we live in a little bit more, and stumbled upon this tasting class for sake, which both have never done. The location is a little off-the-beaten path from where we live downtown, but it was worth it. We had a variety of different sakes and little bites to compare taste and smell before and after. Jake & Noriko explained the process in detail and gave us a tour. It gave me a new found appreciation for sake, and we were thrilled at the opportunity to by a bottle to take home.
Oh, and I almost forgot the most important thing! Once the sake is brewed (yes, brewed), there is a byproduct leftover called sake kasu which can be used in different, fun recipes. Since we coincidentally had a empty container in our car from lunch earlier, they gave us some to take home, as well as some recipes! We made the most killer chocolate mousse AND salad dressing because of it.
This is a fun, unique experience that locals and visitors should both try!
