What travelers are saying
- Jessica FNew York City, NY6 contributionsGorgeous beach, very fine sand, no rocks, less people. Arrived at 9am on a weekday and got a close parking spot (though we’ve read these fill up quickly). No shade on the beach, very happy we brought our umbrella/tent. Wind is strong and feels incredible. Bring your own snacks and drinks as this is situated next to a neighborhood without restaurants in walking distance.Written September 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia19,450 contributionsKailua Beach is on Oahu's eastern side. It's in fact the same beach as Lanikai, divided only by a small river.
Imo, it's one of the most beautiful on the island with amazing sea, palms and sand.
Plenty of parking in front (free) makes it much more accessible than Lanikai.Written June 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There isn’t a lot of shade, but there is plenty of wind and sun, many picture spots, and tons of flowers. I loved this hike.Written August 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Brittainy SJacksonville, FL37 contributionsAMAZING, thrilling, terrifying, gorgeous, phenomenal, easily my “top” favorite hike despite adversity. Park where everyone says to park…. Which is like a mile away… apparently the signs on one side of the road-apply to both and the sign at the front of golf course should say “Zero parking down this road” with an arrow. Vague, misleading. You WILL get towed. I did. If you do…. Here’s the number as you’re hiking down to verify they took it +1 (808) 206-0858 and here is address, 1006 Mikole St
Honolulu, HI 96819 (VIP Towing).
Withdrawal $300 BEFORE you get there ($293 after tax). Their ATM charges extra and you can only take out $100 at a time (fellow hiker whose car had the same fate told me).
It was easy to get an Uber, $50 to stop at hotel for debit card first. On a positive-cheapest gas on the island is there…
The hike: have experience. First hike is GREAT and view from latter two aren’t as great as 1st peak. 2nd peak-worth it, only 0.2ish further. 3rd peak-super sketch… scale a mountain side, steep climbs. Not awful, but I would not have non-experienced friends, or anyone in my family, follow me to third. (I hiked solo)
I brought 2 bottles of water, plastic bag with napkins (bathroom/collect debris), and a blueberry muffin (ate at 1st peak). Perfect, lightweight. Would 100% do this again, and park elsewhere. - Sachin MDel Mar, CA125 contributionsThe Sunday we visited we were told the town market had moved and it was around the Adventist Health Castle location . It was nice short drive and the market was packed with both touristss and mostly locals. There was parking. We must have spent an hour or so, had some coffee and got some fresh fruits and vegetables and honey while there. The prices were quite reasonable and the experience was fun, safe and totally family friendly. There was a mix of locally made artists and farmers so it was very enjoyable.Written September 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BannedDESan Francisco, California5,962 contributionsLovely local beach park with nice waves, more surfy than the other beaches here. Way less crowded, another World from Waikiki. If staying past 6pm park on street not in lot which gets locked promptly at 6pm.Written April 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tina NSan Francisco, CA2 contributionsThis was my first waterfall experience. Warning, this hike is not a walk in the park. I did not read any reviews before hiking this and boy was I in for a ride.
Entrance - finding the entrance is a little tricky. It's hidden, right around the corner of a residential neighborhood.
Hike trails - it's easy to get lost. The clues are not that obvious, but we were able to meet some locals who were able to pave the way. This trail is MUDDDY! Make sure you bring proper attire, shoes, and clothing. I slipped and jammed my finger (unfortunately) bringing a first aid kit is a good idea for next time.
Bugs - Lots of bugs, bring a bug spray repellant.
This hike requires getting down and dirty, climbing through boulders, going into the creek to get to the other side, and lots of incline and decline. However, the outcome of this trail is super beautiful! I did not jump off the cliff, but my fiance did. Highly recommend this!Written February 6, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michelle H1 contributionVisited this market after it was recommended to us by friends. Glad we didn't miss it because it was adorable!
Lots of unique vendors to shop from including jewelers, fashion, pet-friendly items & we even enjoyed live music while we ate lunch.Written October 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Can be hot, go early or later. Lacks shade.

Heiau are places of worship for the Hawaiians. Some were places of sacrifice. This was in a lovely setting back thru a neighborhood near a YMCA. Parking near the Y. The Heiau itself is now a large pile of rocks, at least to us uninformed people. There is a nice serene area to walk to the right and behind the Heiau with flowers, trees and a small taro pond. Many workers were taking care of the area when we were there. A very pleasant stop. You will not find gift shops or bathrooms here.Written January 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
