We found great results, but some are outside Kilauea. Showing results in neighboring cities.

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge
#1 of 22 things to do in Kilauea
The wildlife reserve which is located where the light house is, is a great place for the kids to see nenes as well as Albatross that nest nearby.
On the way read information about the bird refuge and take advantage of the binoculars mounted at the side of the path - at adult and at child height - to view the hundreds of Red Footed Boobies nesting on a cliff...

Anaina Hou Community Park
#6 of 22 things to do in Kilauea
The weekly fire show is the icing on the cake at Anaina Hou, but this site offers an amazing selection of experiences for the entire family with their botanical gardens miniature golf course being the crown jewel.
The playground and playing mini golf (surrounded by a beautiful, informative garden) was perfect family fun.
Kauai Kunana Dairy Farm Tour
#8 of 22 things to do in Kilauea
Really enjoyed the tour, Ryan and Sarah were great hosts, as were the many goats and chickens... Especially fun for all the children in the group, but we really enjoyed the informative discussion.
This really is a working family farm with an abundant variety of tropical fruit trees, and the goat dairy and cheese making operation was fascinating.
Kalihiwai Beach
#7 of 22 things to do in Kilauea
... for paddle boarding, snorkelling or just hanging out on the beach...what really makes it neat is the river that feeds into the ocean and creates a great kids fresh water beach....very safe for young children.
It's clean, secluded (mostly locals), has great river access, nice for kids and families, and all around fun.

It’s a perfect beach for sunbathing, family friendly, dog friendly, the surf is fantastic, great for late night drift wood fires, spectacular sunsets, star gazing and watching the evening mist drift over the bay.
Great beach for families, sports, sunbathing, picnics small surf in the summer - great for little ones - parts of beach are life guarded and showers/bathrooms at some entrance points.

Hanalei Bay Kauai, HI 5.8 mi away

This bay was perfect for my young family and is very spacious to spread out and enjoy the waves.
Since we hardly ever get to the ocean, it was a big treat for my kids to get to jump in the waves, see the beautiful sky as the sun was setting, and we saw a sand crab or two on our strolls along the beach.

Tunnels Beach Kauai, HI 7.9 mi away
#28 of 244 things to do in Kauai
The water was gentle from having the breakwater, there was plenty of areas for my kids to snorkel close to the shore, and the sand was heavenly.
Plenty of beach space, shade and quiet shallow areas for younger children.

The ocean changes throughout the year, but in summer it's a great place for children to romp and learn how to surf.
We also rented a kayak and paddleboard from a place on the river and paddled it to the beach (about 30 min) for the kids to use.

Anini Beach Kauai, HI 2.6 mi away
#42 of 244 things to do in Kauai
There's ample parking, huge shaded trees line the beach, sand is more like little pebbles but the fact that I can just float and children can snorkel and swim without fear of rip tides and crazy waves.. I'm all fo...
But excellent for everything else! Large beach park, calm water as a result of the sand bar, excellent for snorkeling and child safety (still the ocean but..).

The coral offers great protection for snorkeling, and you can walk down the beach a bit to get great family photos with the Napali Coast in the background.
Family friendly with a small coral reef right off the shore, good for snorkelling.
