My sister and I biked (not e-bikes) from Elkins and back for 50 miles total. We were so impressed with the trail and enjoyed every bit of the scenery. The ride into Parsons was breathtaking with the fall colors. The only thing we were slightly unprepared for was the grade coming back out of Parsons. There is a climb there, but it was totally doable.
There was construction on the trail around mile 16 (if you started from Elkins), but we did the trail on a Saturday when there was no activity. The trail was passable, but we had to pick our bikes up over the blockades and ride through the construction zone (which you can tell many other bikers are doing as well). If you have a heavy e-bike, this is might be impassable.
The worst part of it all (with this construction project) is that the trail after the construction zone, for a little while, is thick gravel. It is a rough ride. It doesn't last for very long, but it is not fun. Anyways, I'd do the whole ride all over again in a heartbeat despite those things. We met many lovely people along the trail but did get chased by little dogs once.
