This was breathtaking! It's not well marked, and cell service sucks. The road up to it is sketchy, lots of holes. I managed this in a Chevy Spark Activ[with snow tires]... I had my elderly mother with me, so I didn't get to do much other than the bear rocks. I'll be back someday though to do the full 20 something mile hike!! I'd not recommend this for little ones or handicap, or people who can't drive well/ have bald tires.

Good stop to get the local information. Lady working there knew the area well. Would suggest you stop there.

This is the best way to experience high-quality traditional music and craft in Elkins. Their summer workshops are a must-do for fans of folk music of any kind. Their monthly dances and summer concerts are a great community event.

My sister and I biked (not e-bikes) from Elkins and back for 50 miles total. We were so impressed with the trail and enjoyed every bit of the scenery. The ride into Parsons was breathtaking with the fall colors. The only thing we were slightly unprepared for was the grade coming back out of Parsons. There is a climb there, but it was totally doable.

There was construction on the trail around mile 16 (if you started from Elkins), but we did the trail on a Saturday when there was no activity. The trail was passable, but we had to pick our bikes up over the blockades and ride through the construction zone (which you can tell many other bikers are doing as well). If you have a heavy e-bike, this is might be impassable.

The worst part of it all (with this construction project) is that the trail after the construction zone, for a little while, is thick gravel. It is a rough ride. It doesn't last for very long, but it is not fun. Anyways, I'd do the whole ride all over again in a heartbeat despite those things. We met many lovely people along the trail but did get chased by little dogs once.

Great for camping and hiking. You can go fishing. Good view of mountains and trees. Lovely in Fall with the leaves changing colors but I would avoid it in winter!

I sought out the statue of Davis after catching a glimpse of the iron horse as I turned onto Elkins main historic street. After a brief evening rain shower, I made my way across the Victorian town center, dodging puddles to study the statue from every angle. After taking in the moving quote about Davis’s work ethic, I admired the humble slope the sculptor had endowed on his shoulders. Davis’s downward gaze communicated a patrimony for the people of Elkins atypical for the wealthy of his era. In a word, the statue is inspiring.

We saw this building while driving around the college. We didn't go in but it is beautiful from the outside.

A nice little museum. Lots of information provided in an easy to understand presentation. The museum is free but donations are greatly appreciated. There are a few small items that can be purchased reasonably.

Nice exhibit with local history. Gives you a feel for the area, the people, how it began, and how it grew. I most enjoyed the documentation of the equipment changes over the years. Very pleasant people that we welcome you.

The river trail was a bit disappointing and if you want an easy trail, this is not it, but also not overly hard for those wanting to attempt. However, not well defined as a loop, so we wound up going back to our car by the road. Otherwise, spacious, not crowded, beautiful swimming hole, lots of nice shady picnic spots and pavillions.

Okay so I know they have swings and stuff for kids and a playground. They used to hold the Forest Festival here when I was a kid and people would sell crafts and stuff. It's really nice during the local festivals but other than that it's just a local park.

You have to be hard core into the Civil War to appreciate Camp Allegheny, scene of a smal battle in December 1861. But if you are, this will be an unforgettable experience. DRive the old S-P Turnpike up from Bartow and then out to US 250 to get the full flavor of this isolated and evocative spot, filled with original soldier hut sites and earthworks and not a thing to remind you of the 21st century

This was a great place to stop for a quick visit and a short prayer as we went about our travels in West Virginia. It's worth a stop if you're in the area (kids would probably like it too) but maybe not worth driving miles out of your way for. Really enjoyed it though!
