On a whim we decided to check out the museum and so glad we did. What a great way to step back in time and read / see what life was like in the valley. Such interesting stories and great artifacts. I would definitely recommend taking some time to visit.

Winthrop, Twisp, (Methow Valley), there are excellently maintained, groomed Nordic/cross country trails. Beginners to pro, we find it fantastic for what we need and enjoy. The summer is also well maintained for bikes, horses and other fantastic opportunities.

Surprised there has been no reviews the past few years. We arrived at the base and was meeted by Ivan, who was an actual smoke jumper. He gave us a thorough tour of the base explaining everything from packing their backpacks to jumping out of plane and the dynamics of firefighting. We got to walk through a working plane. We had lots of questions and he answered them all. There was no charge for the tour; we were just asked to buy a T-shirt ($20) or two. The T-shirts were really cool & made great gifts for the folks back home. In addition the total cost of the T-shirts goes toward helping fellow smoke jumpers & their families that are in need. If you have some extra time in Winthrop check the Smokejumpers base out!!

Driving to the Northern Cascades, we found the Methow River along the way. It is a beautiful river that we followed for part of the way. Then wr passed through Winthrop. It was a charming, cute town! We had to stop. We went into some of the nice shops, grabbed a sandwich and had to get back on the road. Winthrop was definitely worth a stop and hoping to go back someday for a longer stay. It’s beautiful!

Has 2 park areas, north / newest, and south / oldest with most established trees. Prepare very well with park regulations due to reduced staff to assist. Rangers do fairly well, but are quite busy with other parks, as well.

To find this hike, program Falls Creek Campground into your map app. The road in is in good shape other than a few pothole sections. Easily driven in a passenger car. The trailhead is just before the campground, on the opposite side of the street. Obvious once you see it but surprisingly easy to miss. You get to a beautiful view of the falls right at the start, from a short easy trail. The trail climbs steadily from there and affords numerous views of the various ramparts of the falls as you go. I'm not in the best of health, so we only made it about a mile in but it's beautiful the whole way and you can quit at any time depending on your fitness level. I'd recommend hiking poles because some sections are pretty steep, though the footing is good. We went in September and were surprised at the water volume for this time of year. Very pretty.

I booked a 1 1/2 hour private trail ride for me, my mom (69) and my two boys (7 & 9). It wasn't much more per person than a group trail ride, and if your kids are as active as mine, it is ABSOLUTELY worth it!

We had a lovely time. Sydney, our guide, kept us entertained with information about the area and was obviously very knowledgeable about the horses. She displayed infinite amounts of patience with my youngest, who is a major wiggler. Debbie, the owner of the horses, was also very patient but firm with him, and I was so appreciative and impressed with them both.

It was a pretty hot day when we went out, but Sydney took us through a nice wooded area near the Beaver Pond, and then up on a hill overlooking the lake. The horses were great, the scenery was lovely, and the guide was fantastic. I would definitely recommend!

Our group of age 60+ gal pals did the Black Canyon run with Cam as our guide. He did an awesome job making it extra fun! Lots of fun! Two days later, Dylan set us up for an excellent float down a portion of the Methow River. This was a great way to spend part of a hot afternoon!
