- Gigi135Orlando, FL38 contributionsWe only had an hour to browse this charming museum. The volunteers were so friendly and informative. Historical Society president Dick Lindstrom demonstrated the portable weaving loom to us. So many artifacts that we remember from our childhoods! Beautiful baskets by Native Americans were on display. The lovely outdoor timeline exhibit was interesting and seemed to be well researched. This museum is a treasure for locals as well as visitors to the area.Written September 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeannie WrightTemecula, CA19 contributionsWe love this little town. We had a wonderful lunch here at The Oak and Acorn restaurant in Camas. Spent a few days visiting a friend in town. We always stop by the Pendleton outlet just to check out what they have. Beautiful town we will return soon.Written December 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DesireeWashougal, WA3 contributionsI went last year and I got an exclusive tour of the park and helped plant trees. It was great I would recommend. This is like real nature.Written June 5, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KjayKlamath Falls, OR631 contributionsThis delightful, linear park off Highway 14 in Washougal, Washington (not far from Portland, and just east of Vancouver, WA) offers riverfront views & a pleasing promenade on a raised dike path that parallels the Columbia River. Along the way are scenic overlooks, artworks, historic replicas, and interpretative signs that include info on the birds & plants, quotes from the journals of Lewis & Clark, and portraits of the indigenous people that lived along the river.
How exciting that we could still see some of the natural beauty viewed over 200 years ago by Lewis & Clark, and could follow in their footsteps in the same month they were there in March 1806.
The birdlife was amazing! Great swirls of Canada Geese filled the skies, and raced across the snowy peaks of majestic Mount Hood – breathtakingly dazzling in fresh snow, and looming in the distance just ahead of us! Down below, we saw Mergansers swimming at the river’s edge, and a lone Great Blue Heron was wading into the sparkling waters.
With over 3 miles of easy-walking paths along the dike, there are also short trails leading to the river. Highlights include several expansive decks for getting closer to the river, and a wonderful semi-secluded area known as the “Cottonwood Beach Riverfront Park” – walk-in only, with inviting sandy shores, and a picnic/green-grass play area for relaxing with family & friends.
Parking is free at the many roadside pull-offs, with restrooms nearby. It’s a popular path – with mostly dog-walkers, a few bicyclists, & friendly passersby. We also encountered an artist settled in his chair, set up with his easel, painting a lovely landscape.
For further nature enjoyment, be sure to visit the nearby Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge, which can be accessed by continuing along the Park’s path by the river. This path joins the “Refuge River Trail” which allows dogs on leash, but has pedestrian-only trails for the more interior sections of the Refuge – including the “Gibbons Creek Wildlife Art Trail” and “Mountain View Trail.”Written March 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Roxen(not sure how to spell his name) and Bubba Stewart were racing. If you are going to go to this event get there early. Traffic is pretty congested on this windy road. So if the race starts at 1pm get there at 9am. They have concessions and things to see before the races. People from all over come to race and enjoy these races. The track is out in the country and really pretty. My kids used to race here. The People running the track are super cool and the track is great. You are able to camp here for I think all events....but not positive. We did stay the night once for a regular race weekend and had a great time w/other race families. The river is close by and Sat I saw that you could rent inner tubes to go down the river. Beautiful area.Written July 25, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SnowyShastaPortland, OR2,336 contributionsThis hike can be done as a 7-mile loop during some parts of the year (from February to July the lower part is closed to avoid disturbing nesting peregrine falcons). We were blessed with a beautiful sunny afternoon in late November and were able to enjoy some beautiful views along the trail.
There was mud in a few parts, with one short section quite muddy and slippery, but mostly the trail was in good shape. We walked the loop counterclockwise (starting with the high/right fork right as the trail starts) and there were also some fairly rocky sections towards the end. The last mile or so of the loop is on a road - with minimal traffic, only one car passed us.
Parking on this nice day was a little difficult - the main trailhead lot was full and cars were parked for half a mile or more up the road. We arrived around noon, and waited for about 15 minutes and someone returned to their car and left an available spot. Parking is also possible (and looked more open when we walked through) at the Upper Trailhead (on Strunk Road) or along the Cape Horn Road that you walk at the end.
We hiked at a moderate but fairly brisk pace and finished in just over 3 hours, with a few stops along the way to admire and photograph the scenery. Overall this was a beautiful Columbia Gorge hike.Written November 27, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I don't know the history here, but someone planted apples long ago. The trees are still there, framing the Columbia River Gorge. A mile-long circle gives you an opportunity to walk off your picnic. Best of all? almost no one else there.Written August 17, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- axs666Sydney, Australia1,277 contributionsA cemetery dating to 1889, it is accessed via a short path located near the historic marker sign. The small plots are in a wooded area, it's very lush and green. It feels like it is being slowly overgrown, this is not a manicured place.Written June 9, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
