- Sara TFredericksburg8 contributionsA must see for out-of-town visitors as well as county residents. Extremely well-done exhibits, fascinating photographic portraits and accompanying bios.Written August 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Arthur GEndicott, NY736 contributionsThe battle field does not have a visitor's center but does have an exhibit shelter, an auto tour, a number of plaques, canon and monuments. The highlight is the entrenchments at the mule shoe or Bloody Angle. Being able to walk this ground brings the actual battle much clearer in focus. This battle is seldom mentioned but highlights the determination of the two armies in 1864.Written June 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Reslysten54Vienna, VA2,022 contributionsA large selection of wines were available for tasting, but I focused on three reds. The Petit Verdot was particularly impressive in my view, and I bought a bottle to enjoy later with friends.
The tasting room is very spacious, and there is ample seating also outside. The landscape is pleasant but undramatic.
Service was very friendly.Written December 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This area was known as “Gold Hill” and was home to the Goodwin Gold Mill. Lake Anna came to be in 1972 when it was created by Dominion Power as a coolant for its nuclear power plant. Lake Anna state Park opened in 1983 and quickly became a favorite for visitors. We visited yesterday (October 24th) as it was a beautiful fall day. Many people took advantage of the warm weather to enjoy the sandy beach and swimming area. There is a sign as you approach the beach stating wrist bands must be purchased for beach access for adults ($4) and children over 3 ($2). This is the first state park I have been to that charged for using the beach but I guess it is to help defray the cost of lifeguards. I don’t know if they were enforcing this in the off-season. The park has many amenities for all ages. Besides the beach, there are picnic pavilions, playgrounds, a fish pond for children and handicapped, miles of trails, picnicking, boat launch, concession stand, and visitor center. The campgrounds offer tent, RV, yurt, lodge and cabin (some lake front) sites. Most of the 13-miles of trails are rated easy except for three rated difficult: Big Woods, Pigeon Run and Gold Hill trails. Horseback riding is available for those so inclined. There are strategically-placed benches throughout the park for those who simply want to sit and enjoy nature. One thing I noticed was the amount of algae blooms in some areas of the lake. I read steps are being taken to clean up the algae. Most of the people on the trails and around the park grounds were wearing masks because of Covid-19 precautions in place. The beach area seemed to be the exception. Admission to the park is $7 per car off-season and $10 per car in-season. Fees for boat launch and equestrian is $5. Camping charges vary according to site type. Reservations are made online. I would come again but during the off-season when the park is not as crowded as in the summer. We had an enjoyable end-of-summer day.Written October 27, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Kate P33 contributionsGreat atmosphere for a date night or family get together. Also has a selection of beer as well at 1781 on site. Bring your own snacks or buy a snack tray. Cigar friendly. Kids can pet the horses or play on the play ground. Live music on some weekendsWritten October 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beth GMyersville, MD6 contributionsMake sure to check out this market on Plank Rd. Fruit and veggies fresh and bread delish. They even take food stamps. - KatWat39Canton, GA467 contributionsThis is part of the driving tour. There's little walking and so much history here. - BumpedAgain2019Spotsylvania, VA7 contributionsened here. The iconic photo of the dead Confederate soldier splayed out on the split rail fence became a metaphor for the tragedy of The Civil War. The old Harris Farmhouse was used as a triage for the wounded & dying. The hundreds of dead were carted down VA-208, about a mile west to the Confederate Cemetery which by the way, is never mentioned in the standard local tours. You now are hereby christened a Local Insider! Each Veteran's Day, amongst the sea of Stars & Bars, are three Federal soldiers buried there --beneath our US flag. I tracked down their desendants, who live Hawaii, sent them pix of the gravestones with the mini-US flags, & had good discussions with them. Excellent eats nearby: Scafa's (Italian). Mexico Palace, Pieces
& Spices (Indian -- new), Kabob Corner (Aghani), & Curitiba (Brazlian -- fast becoming the major vibe for live Jazz here...lots'o great local players here....) I'm an acoustic guitarist -- not great -- but get to jam with the greats. Check out Picker's Supply while you're downtown in the 'Burg. The cemetery is larger than it looks driving in and is a very quiet environment.
I highly suggest you do NOT use Google Maps to get you here-I ended up in a neighborhood that was a block or so away from the actual cemetery. If you do have issues finding the place, like I did, I would backtrack to the Spotsylvania Battlefield Exhibit Shelter where a park ranger can give you easy to follow directions.Written July 13, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cbradley55130Fredericksburg, VA6 contributionsTried their cake and wine pairing. 14 wines, 8 cakes for $15, awesome! Their fruit wines actually use fruit, unlike many VA wineries. I especially liked the DeChaunac blackberry. I noticed many people clamoring for their homemade Sangria; best with a straw! Definitely a place to checkout in the Fredericksburg area.Written February 16, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Leslie B1 contributionIn addition to amazingly wonderful beer, the atmosphere here is so idyllic. Many options for being outside during this pandemic. - Jack LEast Syracuse, NY813 contributionsThe museum's content's start in 1722 with a collection of exhibits & artifacts that go back to explorer John Smith ending with the civil war. On interconnecting wall's are paintings, photographs & documents that require much time to read , that I didn't have, as I was on my way to the Spotsylvania Battlefield. The battlefield's entrance can't be five minutes away.
I learned about the Museum's existence at the Spotsylvania County Visitor Center. The Museum is located two minutes away in a small shopping plaza, plenty of parking. If a visitor has plenty of time to spare to read rom 1722 up to the ending of the civil war, a visit is highly recommended. If I recall I was told at the visitor center there is no admission fee.
I just wish more time was available during my visit.Written October 17, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We met at the Bloody Angle for about a 1 hour tour.It was a great history lesson by the guide. Subsequently, we checked out the exhibit shelter and drove Grant/ Gordon and Burnsides Drive. Total time spent here was about 2 hours.
You definitely want to go when a ranger is guiding since there is not much in the way of kiosks explaining the battle.Written April 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
