- DesireeFranklinville, NJ388 contributionsVery peaceful, well kept site on top of a gorgeous mountain. Perfect for all families, including kids! A must see if you’re in the areaWritten July 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Gundoctor 913ALexington, SC858 contributionsOverall, this is a fantastic museum, but it definitely focuses heavily on trains. The automobile section is one bay with about 20 cars and trucks, with a couple buses and fire trucks outside. There is a very small ship/vessel exhibit and a small room dedicated to aviation. The outside exhibit is dedicated to the railroad with numerous steam locomotives and a few electric & diesel electric engines as well as dozens of train cars. Admission is only $12 and it only took me 2 1/2 hours to see everything in the museum. By far, the highlight of this museum is the Norfolk & Western J-Series 611 Steam Engine “Spirit of Roanoke”.
This is a great museum and worth a visit, especially if you’re into trains.Written August 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. (she was right!, it was great!)…also chatted up Mike, the guy that was on tv for 11 seasons!…enjoyed our time, would most certainly return and highly recommend to others!Written December 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nicola B5 contributionsWhat a fantastic place! We almost overlooked this museum, thinking it would be too niche as none of our group are particularly interested in trains, but we were so glad we chose to go in! Link’s photography is inspiring and really captures a bygone era. We spent a whole afternoon here and could probably have stayed all day if we’d had the time!Written October 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - smcdanielAriton, AL581 contributionsThe city of Roanoke talks about the free things to do and visiting the aquarium in the Center in the Square is one of them. If you've seen an aquarium in someone's house then don't stop by here. The view from the 7th floor is supposed to be soooo good but NO. Couldn't find any other reason to visit downtown.Written July 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ehcIII14 contributionsFormer GABF Beer Judge Here. Best draft craft selection in town. Ten IPAs alone. Not perfect, but good. And I live near Vermont, the best beer in America.Written December 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Melissa CElizabethtown, KY6 contributionsWe enjoyed walking the Lick Run Greenway portion on a Sundaymorning. We started at Washington Park and went towards the highway overpass. The trail was maintained well, the paved trail plenty wide, only some section were bumpy. Definitely worth going to. It had quite a few port-a-potties and trash cans.
The only negative I have is that understanding exactly what areas of the Greenway are accessible and where to access them as we were from out of town. We finally decided to take our chances and check it out.
I gave it a 4 because of the websites were frustrating.Written September 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The permanent collection rotates so you are never sure what will be on show, but it will be worth your time.Written May 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - toslJersey City, NJ1,003 contributionsWe attended Sunday service while driving through Roanoke to Tennessee and my wife was so impressed with the openness and kindness of the congregation, we are looking into the Roanoke area as a place to retire in 5 years. Can't really give it a higher rating when one is moved to relocate to the area because of the church.Written August 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin R17 contributionsTook our 3 kids (age 8,5,2) while visiting for the weekend. Overall good experience but seemed a bit overpriced given the size. The train was closed due to complications from wether which was sad. Animals seemed well cared for and the outlook had great views. - Sarah R3 contributionsA great variety of menus from the different vendors, housed in this building. The City Market is centered in downtown Roanoke. It is an easy walk to and from the several boutique hotels and the iconic Hotel Roanoke. After a nice meal or refreshment walk down the street towards Jefferson Ave and stop into the magical Market Gallery, at 22 Campbell Ave. across from The City Parking Garage. It is an amazing little hidden jewel. It exhibits truly beautiful, collectible artwork, from regional and out of state artists, at truly affordable prices. It has been in Roanoke for twenty years, everything is original and is easily comparable to fine New York or San Francisco art galleries, without the high prices.Written March 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
