My son and I were killing time before I dropped him off at Norwich University to begin his sophomore year. In our experience, there is little to do in and around Northfield, Vermont.

We decided to skip the world’s biggest zipper and tallest filing cabinet and made our way to Morse Farm. We were greeted by one of the Morse Family women (I wish I got her name). She was very friendly and informative. She suggested a short walk to the maple grove. We got about half way before we met some mosquitos. It was wet and we were not dressed for a hike through the woods, so we turned around. But, we stopped in the “theatre” onsite to watch a 10-minute video about the maple syrup-making process. Burr Morse (the kind lady’s uncle) was hilarious and we learned a lot about how to make maple syrup.

We then tasted various “stages” of syrup (from light to dark—which you will learn about). We also bought some syrup (and maple pepper, which I can’t wait to try). They sold apparel and other gifts, as well as ice cream (cremees).

We spent about an hour there. It was the perfect choice for what we needed. I highly recommend.

Dropped by Bernie's house as part of our tour of Vermont during the summer. Even though it was raining, you could feel the shimmer of the golden dome. Likely in the top 1% of state houses!

Good museum in a beautiful historic building - Plan on 1 to 2 hours. The exhibit of Vermont paintings (I believe that it is temporary) is terrific.

Perfect beginner friendly winter Vermont 4OOO footer. Gorgeous views, not too busy on weekdays but also not isolated. Parking lot was easy to find. Always watch forecasts for safety and be prepared.

It's a nice and easy walk to the base of the tower. The stairs inside are a little steeper than the walk up the hill, but they are still easy. Amazing view at the top of course. Fun Fact, the tower used to be used to scout for fires in the town back when the hill wasn't covered in trees. The tower is just up the hill from the State house so you can stop by if you are going to the State house.

Even if you’re in town for only a few days be sure to catch Pride and Prejudice at Lost Nation Theatre. It’s a rollicking laugh out loud high jinks interpretation on a classic. And ... a befuddled Mr Darcy still ends up with a resolute, before her time feminist, Lizzy just like We always imagined

There are not a lot like these in the West. First time for us, so seeing and crossing the Coburn Covered Bridge was a funky new experience...very cool!

A multi generational family outing. My husband is a huge fan of their gin so we decided to go check out the place while visiting family in NH. The service was impeccable, the wait staff was friendly, informative and dealt with all the special requests with a smile. We(the adults) sat on the patio and the kids played on the grass. We basically ordered everything on the menu and it was all delicious. We each ended up with a favorite, but pork bao buns were enjoyed by all.

Not a lot to say about a statue. This one is located right next to the door of the state Capitol building. It’s under cover and well-maintained and the marble is gleaming white without any stains, bird poop or weathering.

The Artisans Hand Gallery boutique has a kaleidoscopic collection of locally created treasures by over 100 Vermont artists. The 2 ½ hour drive from Quebec may become an annual trip to visit the helpful staff and acquire gifts. The Skinny Pancake café next door has cool and warm refreshments and a nice patio to view the town from.”

Small town vibe. Good food down town. The state museum was very informative. Toured State house on A Saterday for free. All staff were super nice. Town shuts down at 9 pm thought. It was good and bad. No nonsense at night, but if you dont get out early night is wasted.
