What travelers are saying
- Kathryn4 contributionsThis was a wonderful, wonderful experience. We'd never been and we were absolutely gobsmacked by the beauty of the house, the sumptuous grandeur -on a human scale, somehow- and the intimacy of design and purpose. The Hildene was clearly understaffed, since Tom & Gary were trying to accommodate our many, many questions as well as greet all the other visitors who arrived after us, but we never felt ignored or neglected.
The self-guided tour was exactly what you made of it: just reading a couple little signs in each room would take about 30 minutes in total, or you could take in each room, seek put details, compile questions and ask one of the fabulous docents.
We tortured poor, patient Docent Gary, who was such a good sport and explained everything in detail, connecting the history of the house to Manchester at large and sharing his thoughts regarding the motivation and inner turmoils of the Lincoln family, their legacy and the role of the house in all.
The Pullman car was a revelation: glorious and resplendent, a shameful over-the-top display of the riches built from human exploitation, a record of the standard of craft and handwork now lost to history, a testament to the dedication of the Hildene Foundation's preservation efforts.Written January 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a working farm, but Ben was able to show us around, answered our many questions very knowledgeably and was great fun. We were visiting from rural West Tennessee and we're already familiar with agricultural life and farm animals, but we still learned a lot from Ben!Written January 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mckenziec561Jupiter, FL354 contributionsThis was a beautiful hike! We didn't make it all the way to the falls because we were on a time constraint but got about half way in 50 min with two babies. My 3 year old and 1yr old both loved it.
Highly recommend real hiking shoes.
Also, make sure you put trailhead into your GPS when searching for the location.Written October 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This fit the bill. We visited in winter when snow was on the ground.Written December 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bbeeAlbanyNYIntervale, NH167 contributionsIn this time of COVID-19 it is difficult to find an outdoor outing for small children. We visited the playgrounds at this park and we all enjoyed them. There were very few people there and there are hand sanitizer dispensers readily available so we were very comfortable spending time. Bonus: it’s shady too!! Thank you Manchester for opening your park.Written August 11, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MimiMissyHaleyville, AL68 contributionsVery educational for those who fish or don’t fish. The art exhibit was fabulous. The Lee and Joan Wolff section was great and also had a video. - Gene R JSilver Spring, MD8,920 contributionsAfter visiting the 1905 Hildene-Lincoln Family Home, we drove 2 miles NE following Google Maps to the 1902 Wilburton Inn. Parking just to the rear, we took the marble pathway to several sculptures that led to the remarkable gazebo at the back of the lawn. Here were ~ 20 large posters basically describing how conflicts develop and how to resolve them. The detail was far too complicated to understand in a short visit, rather these could be used as a syllabus for a college course elective. Well this is Dr. Albert Levis's 30 acre "Training Center" for just that.Written June 28, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andres72423Bridgeport, CT2,799 contributionsA very nice town green with some walkable paths along the river and a few monuments recognizing war veterans and first responders. They have a few spots to be able to take scenic pictures alongside a small waterfall. Also they have a gazebo with several Christmas trees. We enjoyed this spot after walking to the various shops in town.Written January 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
