Great state park! $7 per adult day entrance fee, kids 12 and under are free. We have a Texas park pass so there was no charge for day use.

We started at penitentiary hollow. Although you can probably hike to this location, there is a parking lot at the start of penitentiary hollow and we drove/parked because HELLO IT'S THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER AND 1000 DEGREES OUTSIDE. The walk down to the rock formations from the parking lot is shaded and relatively easy. I mean, we're not talking handicap accessible or anything, but I'm not exactly in my prime shape right now and I had zero difficulty.

The rocks are SO COOL!!! There were multiple groups of legit rock climbers, but my kids (ages 1-9) all loved climbing the lower rock cliff areas. It was july 24 and pretty much as hot as it gets for Texas summers, and we still were able to enjoy the walk (morning, around 10am), so I'd venture to guess this hike is doable year around because of the shade. There was even this crevice that led from one part of the trail to another. I had to get on my hands and knees to get through it and wasn't sure I'd make it, but I did! SO FUN.

After spending an hour or so in penitentiary hollow, we made our way (drove) to the swimming beach. On first glance it looks pretty sad, but honestly it turned out to be an excellent spot. The water is shallow for a very long way out. The sand is "sandier" than a lot of lake beaches. Not a lot of trash, a reasonable number of people, and a clean bathroom. I mean, let's be real, this is a Texas lakefront, not Rosemary Beach. So it's the typical Texas lakefront crowd. But frankly we love the down to earth, smoke a cigarette, swim in a tshirt, rum and coke in a big gulp type, so we're comfortable there. I'm just pointing out for the record that you uppity folk may not love it.

Anyway, super fun all day long. Will definitely be back!

FYI though, we were scoping out potential camping spots in the future and there aren't any close to the swimming beach (at least as far as we could tell). So just make sure you look at the map before you book your camp reservation.

The Famous Mineral Water Company has been in business for 100 years. Today it is just a souvenir shop basically and you can sample and buy the water by the bottle jug or case. The historical value was what brought us to stop and look around. The folks working there were not too friendly on this day.

This park has 3 marked trails, and we took the blue one. It’s a fairly easy hike, but if you want to bike it, you’ll need to have a great mountain bike & be in good shape. This is no road course. It has lots of rocks, branches, and debris as navigable obstacles.

This is a very nice well taken care of cemetery, but it's hard to get around and need some sort of an on-site index.

Nice smaller vintage sale. I think everytime it gets a little bigger and more people find out about it. It's just past the 4 way stop on 281 coming from mineral wells going towards perrin. Fun morning or afternoon thing to do.

  • Some of our team spent two nights at the house in January 2022.
On arrival we were given an extensive tour which covered the factual and paranormal history of the house.
The owners were not only gracious and very kind, they were also extremely knowledgeable about the house, the area and the paranormal field.
They provide all the equipment you could wish for, although I suggest taking your cameras and plenty of SD cards.
Snacks and drinks are always on hand, and you can even sleep in the house. Beds are comfortable and the temperature in all areas is controlled well.
Paranormally speaking, the house is all it's claimed to be . We were not disappointed and indeed extremely happy with our stay and plan to return soon. We caught multiple EVP, we had activity on all our equipment and we all had personal experiences of being touched during our stay.
We advise you not to provoke, go respectfully and you shall likely receive what you give.

Didn't take the tour but this is a cool old hotel. Was abandoned for years but now some investors are renovating it. Very odd to come upon such a large hotel in such a small town. Interesting history. Definitely stop by if you drive through Mineral Wells.

I would give the burger 10 stars it was great the only reason I went very good was having no fries. Which we knew and accepted before going! The staff was very friendly we enjoyed. We are from Kentucky and my youngest son only wanted to come on the trip for this burger he saw on YouTube! It was worth it.

We have been drinking Crazy Water for years but have not bathed in it until recently. My husband and i enjoyed a bath and massage at the bath house for Valentine's day. The house is quaint and cute. The microbubble bath is very very relaxing and soothing. And both therapists were professional and provided good massages. Plus we think the water makes aching joints feel better. We will go back!

The Tattered Teddy is a great little antique shop located across the street from the historic Baker Hotel. The Manager, Dianna, is very friendly and an interesting promoter for the city. A great source of information about the Baker Hotel and the nearby famous Crazy Water Company. The shop is filled with interesting antiques and collectables and I found a good selection of the hard-to-find items I was looking for. This is a definite stop as you are visiting or traveling through Mineral Wells.
