Very interesting history and real examples to see outside. I learned so much about the oil and gas industry.
Very nice facility and the gift shop has some nice things - jewelry, books, stones, souvenirs, and also items for children.

This site is currently closed, ostensibly not to Covid19, but rather to home restorations. Still worth a drive by to see the ordinary, humble beginnings that shaped our 43rd President, George W. Bush.

My son lives in Midland and we go here every time we’re in town to visit him. We enjoy this as it is a bit of a respite and we always see wildlife. It is very different season to season. Yes, it does get dry in the summer, but this is the desert. There are some interesting facts about plants and animals along the 1.5 mile path.

The path is level and easy to walk on. There are several blinds from which to watch birds. This weekend we saw lots of lizards, dove and rabbits. We saw lots of evidence of coyotes, but Wiley was in hiding.

The real downside is the proximity to I20 and the resulting noise from trucks. Not much to be done about that.

We have seen too many performances here to count. This is a fabulous facility, one of the finest in the nation. Every performer raves about the theater and it’s amenities.

Great place to visit for veterans. Very nive for all the work that was done to restore that Huey. It was damaged by heavy wind last year.

This was a good stretch break off of the interstate in Odessa, TX. The meteor crater used to be huge but the wind has covered up the hole with dirt. There is a short walking trail around it and a small museum. I wish they would dig it back out. Neat place to see.

Sundays are free at the Planetarium, Children's Museum and Museum of the Southwest thanks to one of the local energy companies. They are all right there together and are open from 2-5 pm. It is a small Planetarium, but the one room of displays and information was fun and interesting. The theater was not open the day that we went. The Children's area was bright and fun. Also small, but packed with things for little people to do. The Turner House / Museum was full of wonderful and interesting artwork. It was quiet and had a good flow.

Since the early 1960's I have missed few productions at Midland Community theatre. How anybody expects more from a volunteeer theatre I will never know! Accolades are all that I have to offer from the staff to the actors to the backstage to the audiences. This is a grand place for a grand evening or afternoon. Clean, neat, professional and most of all friendly at all times. Unruly children with ignoring parents are sometimes a detriment but that is not the fault of the theatre. Best bang for the buck in town!! I give it 10 circles!!!!

This is a nice place to take kids or dogs for a little nature stroll. There are informative signs that tell you what you are looking at, and the center has activities throughout the year for kids.

The Bar in Midland has been in business for as long as I can remember. In the early 80s, it was a low profile, if not a bit rowdy, burger and bar business frequented by people doing business or working in the area. Today, the expanded seating area includes an outdoor patio and a non-smoking patio that closes off when the weather is unpleasant. A $12 burger assortment, chicken fried steak, steak fingers, and other favorites along with salad, and you have a decent spot for your lunch, dinner, and after work entertainment.
Yes, it IS a bar too. Worth a try. Not your typical fast food experience. The oilfield themed decor would be a point of interest for someone from outside the area.

Most weekends you can find the same vendors coming back. Unlike some farmers markets, this one is not limited to only farmers selling their produce.

Some things I have purchased from the Midland Downtown Farmer’s Market:
artisan breads, local honey, strawberry/cranberry jam, jalapeño salsa, chili mix, dill mix, hatch chili cheese bread, lemon/blueberry scones, pecan sandies, chocolate banana nut bread, organic face soap & lotion, memoirs, goat cheese, free-range eggs, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkin, collards, tomatoes, squash and other things I’m sure.

Get there before 10:30am to have the best variety because most vendors sell out their local favorites before then.

The Haley Library was founded by J. Evetts Haley, very well know Texas historian, author of the best book about a cowboy, candidate for Governor of Texas and the last of a era where the self sufficient American could quote Shakespeare and cook cornbread over an open campfire.
