- Jake VVancouver, Canada16 contributionsIt cost us Q125 return to get to the rop swing and entry is an additional 25Q per person. Beers and some light food is available, though we only indulged in the former.
The swing itself is good fun and, to me, felt reasonably safe (just make sure to let go). The diving board is solid and the water was beatiful. IMO, worth the small cost to spend an afternoon here.Written January 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Estacion can arrange travel from Flores, which I advise (for self-driving, which we did, the road is quite bumpy) - about 2.5 hours. Then you are a short boat trip down the Rio San Pedro to a wonderful jungle lodge. I have been to nature reserves in Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Borneo…but Estacion Las Guacamayas was the best-run I have seen. Wonderful, friendly, warm, unaffected service, great accommodation, well-maintained trails, the possibility to supplement guided trips with an independent look around on foot or by river kayak etc etc. The very best moment was when we went on a 5-hour very sweaty but wonderful jungle hike to a lonely Maya site, and when we got back into the boat to return to the lodge, the guy driving the lodge boat had brought cool tamarind juice for us and the guide to drink on the ride back. Priceless. A stay at the lodge may seem expensive (~270$ a night for two people staying 3 days), but it is absolutely not expensive when you actually consider what you are getting: accommodation, full board, an appointed guide showing you around the jungle and river during the three days (yes, appointed, not a group guide), and a total switch-off in the midst of pristine jungle and wetland. Far and away the best part of Guatemala for us (and we also went to Antigua, Atitlan, Selmuc Champey, Flores, Tikal…).Written August 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve JHalifax, Canada88 contributionsThis was an interesting way to be able to view animals from this region in a natural setting and was especially interesting in that they were rescued animals.Written July 1, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kitty_MinoucheGeneva, Switzerland45 contributionsCathedral as any other the history how it was built and that the whole island is built on Mayan ruins is interesting but Cathedral it self nothing special.Written April 29, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Giuseppe SAntwerp, Belgium864 contributionsThis little island reachable by lancha (small private boat) hosts a small and enjoyable museum with a collection of Mayan objects from the nearby ruins. Then you can follow the Lonely Planet advice and get a chilled drink at the bar.Written February 26, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stephen LRye, UK10 contributionsI’d recommend the boat trip from Flores to San Miguel and the easy hike up to the Mirador and Tayasal as ‘must does’ if you have a spare half day whilst in Flores. There’s more excavated than in previous reviews and I, at least had the place to myself. If you’re a beach bum, there’s good swimming nearby too.Written December 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rob CSan Jose, CA2,115 contributionsA promenade that runs the circumference f the island. It's pleasant to walk and only takes no more than a half an hour to walk around the whole town/island. There are a multitude of restaurants and bars on the western side, where sunsets can be observed, while the eastern side is more peaceful.Written April 16, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rob CSan Jose, CA2,115 contributionsThe central square of the town of Flores is a typical Latin American town Square. It features a church, town hall a kiosk in the middle of the square, and some trees offering shade. This one also has a basketball court where young men of the town try their prowess. There is a small museum on the north end of the square, that I did not go into and a restaurant that offers views of the lake.Written April 16, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SueSantorini, Greece4 contributionsI didn't have very high expectations for this but our guide was so lovely. He pointed out all the different "lookalike" formations and the bugs that live in the cave. An hour and a half flew by.Written February 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
