    Great stop into the past.
    This is a very pretty pretty old historic home.
    What is interesting is that a lot of the furniture and artifacts are actually relics from the past. We had fun Moseying around on a self guided tour. the attendant was very friendly and informative.

    Worth a trip.
    Great for the museum. The staff was knowledgeable and had a lot of interesting exhibit. Very small. But just perfect to get the history of Texas and pacific railroad and the model train is really neat also!

    Best college!!
    Beautiful college!!! We have one alumni student and 2 presently there! Catch a football game. It’s so much fun! Lots of history, tradition and class at this school!

    East Texas by horseback
    Went for my 2nd visit in early July. Took the kids with me this time. Loved our time together out on the trail. Beautiful ranch and wonderful stock. All the horses look well cared for and we had a great time.

    Open Tuesday-Friday 11-3 and Saturday 11-2 (Covid-19 hours)
    My husband and I toured the downtown area of Marshall and found the beautiful Harrison County Historical Museum. The 1901 museum was once a courthouse and is located on the downtown square. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday 11-3 and Saturday 11-2 with last admission one hour before closing. We missed touring the inside because we were there on a Monday. $7 adults, $6 seniors, 18 and under are free. The outside was certain worth a 10 minute stop to walk around.

    ROTATING DISPLAYS
    We had never been before, so we just wandered in (free). When we were there, there were many beautiful costumes from the Longview Ballet featured. Very interesting. Apparently, the displays change monthly.

    Historical Black College
    Wiley College is a historical black college, that's been around for 143 years. It is a staple in the community. They help young people on their paths to their future careers in every way possible: Physically, Academically, Socially, Spiritually, & Mentally. Its got small class sizes with personal attention.

    Shopping and eating too
    We drove through Marshall on our road trip and decided to look around. They had lots of cute items in this old building built in 1898 in downtown Marshall. There is also a restaurant inside with food that smelled devine. We did not eat there but wished we would have.

    Holiday Wonderland
    Piney Park is a wonderland for children and adults. The walk-through light displays are creative, imaginative and fantastic! A giant slide is included in the admission price, and our grandkids love it.

    Wonderland of Lights
    We went to take the grandkids ice skating - we bought our tickets online but when we went to pick up the tickets at the tourist center, was told they would not be open till 4 which was odd because our skate time was to start at 4. After asking several people I did get some help and was able to get our skates before the start time, but this was after several trips back and forth from the skating rink to the tourist center. I would recommend someone being at the tourist center at least an hr prior to when events are supposed to start. But the children had a great time.

    It was wonderful when it was open
    One of the best fine art galleries in East Texas when it was open. Recently closed and no longer exists.

    Visitation
    This university is no longer opened, but you can visit the site where it was originally located. It was an historical black college and later moved to Dallas, Texas and later closed due lack of funding. The original site in Marshall, Texas was a former plantation. Historically, it is of value when it comes to the importance of education for former slaves and their children and the black community in East Texas.
