Our trip to the Houston Zoo was wonderful! Despite the 97 degree temperature we had a very nice time. There are a lot of shaded areas/walkways which was impressive. Other zoos I have been too are severely lacking shade trees. This zoo flowed nicely from one exhibit to the next and the exhibits are all designed with plenty of viewing areas. It seems you get a bit closer to the wildlife at this zoo because of the way it is designed. There are several air conditioned buildings to view animals also,...so that helped keep us cool as well.
My only suggestion is to be early to any "keeper talk" or similar event. For example, the website said elephant baths were at 9:30 and sign at zoo said 10:00. But we got there at 9:15 and the baths had already started. I'm glad we arrived early because it was something so cute to see.
I also liked the enclosures for the animals--all seemed very spacious.

We were excited to take our 4yo to this aquarium. From the outside it looks huge - 3 floors, carnival rides and games, and train through a shark tank.

Aquarium exhibits- We were surprised to find that the aquarium exhibits are really only on the first floor. At the end of the underwater exhibits there was a bengal tiger exhibit with a few white tigers that was unexpected and interesting. There was an employee talking about the tigers and she was very informative There was also a stingray touch exhibit that we enjoyed. We thought it would take a couple hours to get through the aquarium but we finished it in about 45 minutes (if that). We asked what was upstairs. The second floor is a restaurant and the third floor is a banquet hall.

Rides and games - there are only a few rides but they are good quality and excellent for younger kids. My 4yo was most excited about the frog hopper ride. She went on it multiple times. We had gotten there as soon as it opened so there were no lines for any of the rides. We didn’t try any of the games but they were typical carnival games with stuffed animal prizes.

Train through shark tank - this was awesome! A train for all ages takes you into a tunnel where the shark tank is all around you.

Our total time spent here was 90 minutes. It was a fun 90 minutes.

The aquarium itself isn’t huge and we got through it pretty quickly, but it is nicely done and the kids enjoyed seeing the fish and reptiles.

Get there early. Parking is utter madness. If you have a smaller car bring it, it will definitely help. Once in the Zoo things calmed down a bit and we were able to enjoy ourselves despite the Covid police being out in full force. The Zoo has a lot of exhibits ranging from insects to apes to ferocious cats and everything in between it truly has something for everybody. The terrariums were well planned and many of the main displays contained multiple optional viewing angles from both outside and inside. The animals were mostly active and seemed to enjoy putting on a good show for the guests. A few exhibits were under construction while others were shut down due to Covid, but they were definitely the exception and not the rule. We will probably find our way back next time we are in town!
