Although way too hot and very off season to see many birds, the park is still beautiful. We did see an owl and hawks as well as other water fowl. Having it all to ourselves meant we could stop whenever we wanted. I recommend listening to the tour available on YouTube as you drive through. We were fascinated by the baby crocs sunning themselves near the visitors center and the others who eyeballed us as we drove the Big Slough Auto Tour. Still closed due to Covid the walking paths were quite overgrown so we saved those for another day.

My husband and I stopped by the Freeport Visitor & Parks Department (visitor’s center) immediately after arriving in Freeport. The lady working at the center was very helpful, giving us good information about the local beaches and parks. They have lots of Freeport brochures and maps, and other places in Texas as well. If you want to know more about Freeport, the visitor’s center is a great place to stop.

I have tried to get to the Flower Gardens for 20 years, but last weekend fate smiled and the trip went!
Amazing experience. The boat was large and comfortable. The crew, dive masters, kitchen, and boat handlers, were great.
Food was fantastic, and Deanna and Scott really tried to please everyone.
First night was briefing and motoring out to the Flower Gardens Marine Sanctuary. First dive was at 7:00 am, then an outstanding breakfast before the 2nd dive. Lunch and cruising to an oil rig, where we literally swam with sharks. Snacks and then motoring to the Eastern side of the Flower gardens for two more dives.
The next morning we arrived at Stetson Banks, for the last two dives of the trip.
Worth the time, effort, and money. I highly recommend this charter.

Josh from Blue Fin Charters captained the boat,
Not the best customer service at all!
Did not bother to ask/learn names of 2 children and 4 adults aboard.
Deckhand, Brendon, slept most of the time, and was not engaging when he was awake.

Don’t go with kids. They will NOT help them.

Josh likes to hook the fish and reel them almost all the way in and it becomes the “Captain Fishing Show,” as we so affectionately called it.

    Weird experience.

We were looking for charters to recommend for our business, but this will NOT be one.

Didn’t want to tip a couple hundred dollars, but only felt obligated to do so.
Picture of captain reeling in fish with deckhand holding gaff and daughter confused as to why she can’t fish.

Took my son out with captain Steve and what a day. Left the dock at 6a and we’re on the fish at the first stop. We rolled up by a shrimp boat where a school of Mahi were hanging out and the next was history. Every one on the boat was pulling up Mahi. Our next stop we hit Red Snapper and as you’ll see they were massive. The last stop we caught 2 Amberjack and a Shark (which we cut loose). It was an incredible trip and if you’re looking for a true professional captain Steve is your guy.

The weather was rough, but Captains Mikey and Josh were up to the challenge and we went anyway. We caught a lot of fish, the crew were outstanding, they are like a well oiled machine. We went out about 130 or so miles with stops along the way for snapper, kingfish and grouper, we fished overnight at one of the deep water rigs for tuna. Then we fished our way back in. We also caught a few Sharks, a Pompano, a Mahi, a Bonita and lots of bait. It was a great trip, definitely recommend these folks, they want you to have a good time and catch plenty of fish!

Bad “S” Icehouse is a fun establishment to go to with friends or by yourself. Great staff and cold beer make for a fun time.

Hands down one of the most memorable fishing adventures I have ever had. We were blessed with having both Captain Max and Capt Rob on board which meant not only great catching but lots of laughs, wonderful food and memories that I'll have for a lifetime. Memories of catching my first blue marlin that couldn't have been more perfect if you had scripted it...with a beautiful sunrise in the background, wonderful coaches, expert boat handling, great tackle, a cooperative fish and a perfect release with photos. I couldn't have asked for any more. Of course there were tuna, dolphin, along with the peace and joy associated with being at sea with family and friends. Thank you Easy Rider Sportfishing for a journey to remember!

We visited here not long after it reopened after being closed during the pandemic. We were intrigued by the mention of items from the Lonesome Dove series. Those wound up being black and white photographs made during the filming.
The rest of the museum was being redone so we really had to try hard to decipher the artifacts. However there was a docent there who was delightful and answered all of our questions and provided a lot of history about the area. We would definitely go back later after it is fixed up.
