Kids wanted to do a paddle boat before we went swimming, which was fun but you had to stay in the general area so they got bored quickly plus, being on the lake under that hot Texas sky it was too tempting to jump...
If you are traveling with small kids and/or pets through the Texas Hill Country, Inks Lake State Park is a great place to spend a day.

We got the chance to climb the observation tower and walk the trails before the tour - fun and kid friendly, and even the longest hiking path didn’t take more than 40 minutes all told.
You have to take a guided tour to see it and it's a little pricey ($15 for each adult and $12 for kids over 3), but definitely worth it.
