A mini guide to Nashville
Meredith Carey
Travel Expert & Tripadvisor Editor
Can’t get enough vintage and Dolly Parton
- What’s one thing visitors shouldn't miss?Shopping! I always pack an expandable bag to bring records home from Grimey's, jeans from Imogene + Willie, vintage tees from Black Shag Vintage, discounted designer picks from UAL (I prefer the location on West End), hats from N.B. Goods, and so much more.
- What do you wish tourists knew about Nashville?Live music reigns in Nashville, but there’s more to see beyond Broadway and the Bluebird Cafe. There’s The Station Inn for bluegrass, The 5 Spot (go Mondays for Motown), and low-key Bobby’s Idle Hour. Plus, the karaoke scene rocks. Santa’s, the diviest of dive bars, and Wanna B’s are two faves.
- Let us in on your favorite restaurants—what makes them great? If I had to choose, here’s my ideal Saturday: pancakes at East Nashville’s Lou; the Andre’s sando from Prince’s Hot Chicken (available from 11 to 2); dinner at the 24-seat Bastion, and a nite-cap at the spot’s casual bar. If I couldn’t get a res at Bastion, I’d “settle” for pizza at Folk.
- Are there any activities that are better done on weekends vs. weekdays? If you’re dead set on hitting up Nashville's Honky Tonk Highway, a.k.a. Lower Broadway, but want to avoid some of the crowds (and most of the bachelorette parties), visit early in the week. There’ll still be great live music at go-tos like Legends Corner, Tootsie’s, and Robert’s Western World.
- Which top tourist attraction is worth the hype? The Grand Ole Opry. The backstage tour is a must—you’ll see the dressing rooms where country, folk, and bluegrass singers prep for shows and step on the iconic stage yourself. Be sure to book a ticket for a show during your trip, too. You never know who will come on stage!
- Why is Nashville special to you?I’ve been visiting Nashville for over a decade and while I first visited on a girls’ weekend—the city is great for big groups—I’ve come to love it as a solo traveler. The food is wildly underrated (and reservations are easy to come by when you’re a party of one) and there’s music on every corner. What’s not to love?
- AboutMeredith is Tripadvisor’s Deputy Editor and number one Dolly Parton fan. She loves vintage shopping in Nashville, finding the city’s best hole-in-the-wall bars, and scheduling two dinners a night so she never misses a stellar Music City meal. She’s based in New York City.

- Linda BRadcliff, KY95 contributionsWent to a concert at the Grand Ole Opry is was amazing. We got to see 6 different bands with various variety of music. This was my first visit and I had difficulty with the app tickets are on. So we went to the office and got assistance. There was a line but things went fast. All the staff were pleasant to meet and help us. We had floor seat and a good view.Written August 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alan PAve Maria, FL434 contributionsWe attended a concert at the ryman Theatre. We saw Brandon Lake. The venue is fantastic with excellent seating and unbelievable sound quality. The building itself is a historic landmark. It does resemble a church which is the intention.Written September 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DollyInvernessInverness, UK58 contributionsWe did a tour of the mansion house followed by wine, food and bourbon pairing. The tour was good if you like the history of these families but the wine and food pairing was really brilliant. The room was beautifully decorated and the sommelier was absolutely brilliant. Very knowledgeable and great fun. Would highly recommend.Written September 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Colleen CTroy, NY2,518 contributionsIf you are not statying at the resort you will have to PAY for parking! The way around this is to find the movie theater that is located in the mall across the street. Park at the very edge of the lot and walk to the Resort ~ about a 10 min walk. Total worth it. From there once you enter you can then spend as much time as you want walking though the maze of 7 diffent rooms of plants, shopping, dinning, boat rides, and even water slides! We sat at "The Falls" for a couple of hours waiting for the time to approch to go to the airport and had some drinks~ tranquil!
since you have a good parking spot that is centrally located ~ you can take a 10 min walk back and go right to the Opry House. It's a win~ win!Written August 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very busy busy busy, every bar has a window with bands, groups, solo singers, music coming out of establishments left right and centre. Some more famous Honky Tonk bars you are expected to queue and pay on entry (obviously) but still can lead to an expensive evening if you have not budgeted for this because once you get in the groove there’s no stopping you. Not very impressed with some musicians suggesting a minimum TIP of 20dollars, for a request or put in my tip bucket please, it will go a long way? Every bar has a band and they ALL have a tip bucket…just saying…be prepared, if you’ve been out all day/night on a “session” you get caught up in the moment and that could turn out to e a very expensive visit to the STRIP, welcome to Nashville!!Written October 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carla E2 contributionsI highly recommend the tour of Studio B! For a music lover this really an unbelievable experience. You get to see where so many hits were recorded, the original studio and instruments. We had Seth as our guide and he only made the experience better. His love for all of this music and his endless knowledge and enthusiasm really made the trip there worthwhile. I won’t forget this visit!Written October 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 60seattleKent, WA146 contributionsDo not miss this place. So much history. Beautiful setting. We went on the 30-minute Wagon Tour.... just great! FYI, we were disappointed that the FKS Restaurant has been closed. We bought tickets for the VIP tour, excellent information and access to part of the house that others aren't privy to.Written September 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a T
