It’s certainly a lovely zoo. Perfectly placed on the amazing harbour but as far as user friendly- not so much. The ferry trip across from Circular Quay is easy but then after a nasty bus shuttle up the steep hill (never consider walking) to the entrance it is pretty cramped and maize like to get around. The animals habitats are well marked but I still am not convinced that their map was user friendly and once inside - it is hard to navigate a path back down to the outward ferry. Look, I am whinging but it should be easier to navigate with clearer signage.

Great place to stroll along the promenade to stretch the legs then a dip in the protected baths or open beach area to cool off. Nice coffee nearby or a spot of lunch with burgers or fish and chips. Choose parking carefully as it can be expensive closer to the beach...

This was my 3rd visit to the Sydney Harbour National Park, but I never tire of the breathtaking views. Sydney and the harbour are on one side, the ocean on the other. Trails are well marked and not overly taxing. Entry is free, although there is a charge to park vehicles.

As a continuation of the Bradleys Head Walking Track (which officially starts at Taronga Zoo and ends at the point) this walk gives views over Port Jackson and Taylors bays. The track is all in bushland or parks around the Sydney harbour foreshore. Unfortunately, the restaurants in Chowder Bay were closed when I arrived just before 4 pm on Monday.

With a 14 year old open water diver this has become a regular dive spot for our son. Getting there early we always find a parking spot and always get a seat with shelter. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic and we pack plenty of food and drinks. Great spot for a swim. It’s a dog friendly place with so many dogs running in and out of the water. The only downfall is the price of parking.

Wonderful beach location for a fun day. The great thing is that there is a large park as well as the beach. The water is not to strong so you can swim safely. You need to get in early for a good parking spot

I visited Headland Park on days 2 and 4 of my Bondi to Manly walk. The first day I came up from Chowder Bay via Georges Head and Middle Head which is a bushland and parkland walk. I did get a bit lost when the walking track went inland and ended up on Chowder Bay Rd despite the signposting. There are old military buildings on Middle Head, some which have been repurposed as office buildings. The cafes were closed when I arrived around 4:30 pm but the bus from HMAS Penguin was operating and was the way I left. It is best to get off at the bus at Mosman and take a bus into Sydney rather than go onto South Mosman Wharf with its less regular service.

On day 4 I came up from Balmoral, which has a pretty beach and lots of facilities and probably better transport connections, then headed up the Headland Park Walking Track, basically stairs up to Middle Headland Rd (which I wish I had gone down on Day 2!). There were signs to say the stairway closes around 10 pm. This time I took the bus to Mosman.

There are great views of the heads from Georges Heights and lots of military history. Unfortunately both my visits were at the end of long days so I didn't make the most of my visit. I feel like there is more I could have explored and enjoyed if I had come earlier in the day.

Please do not bring your kids here!! There are literally hundreds of miles of family friendly beaches in Sydney. There are however ONLY 3 clothing optional beaches & all of them are tiny, in addition to taking valuable space, one of the reasons a lot of us go to clothing optional beaches is because it's quite, ie, not hoards of screaming kids running around. Please respect that & go to one of the bigger clothing
required beaches nearby. Highly recommended Chinaman's beach for families with kids

Athol Bay beach is a hidden, secluded harbour beach which you can only access by boat or by walking in through a bush track.
It is one of the very scenic spots along the Taronga Zoo - Balmoral hiking trail. The best thing about it is that you can swim in the calm water, while looking directly across the harbour to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The walking trail starts from the Taronga Zoo ferry wharf but if, like me, you have visited the zoo first, then you can just walk or drove down Bradley’s Head Road. Starting from the zoo’s main entrance (at the top), it was a quick a 15 minute downhill walk.
Look out for a large sign saying ‘Sydney Harbour National Park’ and ’Athol Hall’ (see photo below) and at this point, you follow the old, stone path down past Athol Hall to join the bush track.
It is a 5 - 10 minute stepped trail down to the beach (see photo). You'll pass a sign post along the way but you really can't wrong - just keep heading down to the water. It is very easy to get to (although it’s a steep hike back up the stairs).
This is a small, largely undiscovered beach, with a good stretch of sand, calm water and gently lapping waves.
On one side is large outcrop of rocks which fun for kids to scramble over. I sat for a while in a shady spot on one of the larger rocks, looking out across the harbour and reading a book.
On weekends, expect the bay to feel a bit busier as large boats will anchor just off the beach.
Anything you need, you will have to carry in with you as there are no facilities. Bring your own water, snacks, drinks and sunscreen.
NOTE: If you want a longer walk, the same trail will take you around the headland to Bradleys Head and from there you can continue on to Chowder Bay and Balmoral if you wish.

Beautiful park, easy for walking or to relax - close to the city but more so to the Taronga Zoo and the Harbour. Accessible by buses or ferries.

D'Álbora Marinas is nestled by the Spit bridge and right next door to Chiosco by Ormeggio where you can enjoy a meal or grab a takeway coffee and sit by the lovely boats at DÁlbora Marinas and go window shopping for boats!

Follow the sign near Neutral Bay wharf down a tunnel through a building to get to this beach that looks out over the harbour and wharf with the bridge peeking above Kirribilli. Most of the sand was nice but there was a lot of shells and rubbish in places. Locals have left some convenient chairs on the grass patch at the end.
