- Nella4 contributionsHiked in the snow and absolutely loved it, via Minffordd path. Penygader (peak) shows off a 360 degrees view of Snodonia. Llyn Cau looks amazing & inviting (I wouldn't hesitate jumping in, in the summer). Did the circuit and descending in the snow along the rocky path was challenging & scary at times. I would definitely do it. Only disappointment, was lack of cafe to unwind. Very friendly hikers along the way. In summer probably would make a lovely picnic/romantic walk along the lake.Written February 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sharon DLeicester, England, United Kingdom47 contributionsWe only did a small section of this walk, but it was well kept and a good use of the old railway line route. We just walked as far as up to the George III Restaurant for refreshments as we had other places to go onto (in the car) later that day. I'm sure the remainder of the route is just as good as the section we did.Written May 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sharon DLeicester, England, United Kingdom47 contributionsThis was a memorable walk, but sadly a lot of vehicles had overtaken the car park at the start of the walk (staying overnight when they were not supposed to!!!) so it was difficult to park. We eventually parked on the road nearby (not ideal), but glad we did as the walk turned out to be breathtaking for amazing scenery. We chose to do the route where you are walking towards the view of the estuary of Barmouth as that saved having to keep stopping and looking back, because the awesome view of the Mawddach River and the estuary were ahead of us for a big percentage of the trip. Well worth the effort and if the weather is good, the views look all the more spectacular.Written May 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tourist502174412592 contributionsAmazing and fantastic location. Walks from the door in every direction. Good accommodation on 1 level. Pub 1 min stroll away and private outside seating area opposite the house, with a view of the estuary.Written May 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sharon DLeicester, England, United Kingdom47 contributionsDon't do this walk unless you have good route map or GPS guidance as we missed a few paths and finished up walking a lot further than we needed to and took us on some quite arduous sections. Well worth the effort to do the walk, although we only did one section and after 6+ miles we were treated to some amazing views, absolutely stunning to be honest, but we were glad to be making our way back down. We did the route up to the Lake, along the Levels and back down. Starting it in the village of Llanelltyd.Written May 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GarethfromllandudnoLlandudno, UK143 contributionsOne of Wales' hidden gems and it is well hidden from the road. Just look for a black gate and follow the path up to the church. From the outside the church doesn't look like anything special but once you step inside, it's just wow
One of the best examples of the arts and crafts movement in a church. Well worth visiting.Written September 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My one issue with this is the fact that there is a caravan park next door, with no hendge or fence to screen off this ancient ruin, which seems distrespectful and spoils the visit as it is not suitable in my opinion. A high hedge which there was on the other side would screen this very well.Written October 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - isaacGreat Malvern, UK10 contributionsBrilliant solo walk up Aran Fawddwy. Went clockwise from the little cabin I was staying in past Blaencywarch Farm. The start is very steep and demanding, and it gets boggy after you turn right. I walked to Aran Benllyn afterwards which wasn’t too demanding and added a fair bit of distance and time.Written September 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SusiehoRuncorn, UK139 contributionsThe market was in the ship, the library and the street due to the BBC filming a new drama. We bought some lovely fresh bread and coffee and were a bit disappointed we'd shopped for meat and eggs the day before as the stuff for sale looked beautiful. Dog friendly which is a massive plus point.Written June 19, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PutneySWLondon, UK1,758 contributionsI was walking in the forest this morning and passed by this tea room in a remote but fantastic location. It was a Monday so I doubted that it would have been open and as it wasn’t then I can only rate it on its location.
A little further on, I stopped to chat with a very charming local inhabitant who told me that the tea garden was open at weekends and had been the previous weekend but I’m not certain if this applies during winter months.Written October 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lovetrav_9Old Colwyn, UK1,298 contributionsThis bridge knows as Y Bont Fawr, was originally built in 1638, remodelled in 1870 and spans the River Wnion and the Dolgellau Bypass, formerly the old Cambrian Railway which was closed in the early 1960’s.
It was Grade 2 Listed in 1990 and has a total of seven arches with a modern footbridge added on the eastern side to safeguard pedestrians from the traffic, although the original pavement still remains on the downstream side which some locals still use.
It’s relaxing on nice weather to lean on the parapet for a few minutes watching the water flowing below.Written September 28, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trails are clearly marked and lead to great views over the Mawddach estuary. The old lime kiln is interesting. Good place for picnics and splashing about in the stream.Written August 30, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lovetrav_9Old Colwyn, UK1,298 contributionsThis war memorial in the lovely, friendly characterful town of Dolgellau is situated in the park near the Bont Fawr bridge spanning the Wnion river.
It’s in the form of Wheel Cross commemorating those from Dolgellau and the surrounding area who gave their lives in the first and second world wars with their names carved on all four sides of the granite plinth.
Prior to being moved to its present site in the 1950’s, it was situated in centre of Eldon Square along with a number of parking spaces, but the increase in volume of traffic at the time demanded a rethink and most of the town's streets were made one-way, the memorial moved into the park and the parking spaces moved to the side
It’s worth stopping here for a while reflecting on the ultimate sacrifice they gave that we should never forget.Written September 28, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
