We took a tour through this lovely southern home and learned so much about the early families of Charleston and their social circles. Fun and interesting!

This mansion was once the home of John C Calhoun. The Williams Mansion is packed full of art and artifacts. It is worth your time if you are visiting or live in the area. The 30 minute tour cost $17 but you learn and see so much, worth it!

Plus you are helping preserve history!

This was our second time to visit the Gibbs. Beautiful photography and art pieces. I did not enjoy the third floor "traveling" collection. Guess I am not "woke"!

We didn't make it a priority to go to this Museum. This is where we had to wait until our tour bus was prepared to depart. That being said, for something you could totally see and do in 30 minutes, this was really good. The Best Friend is clean and impressive (its a replica but still, impressive) while the information stands around it help non-Charleston residents learn about the train as well as rail transportation of the area. There are a couple little hands on exercises for the little ones as well.
Yes it is free and yes if they charged I would say no thanks and move on. This is a good understanding on their part that they will get more people coming in and talking about it without an entrance fee. Its a jumping off point for tours and I appreciated the connection what was made. Parking is nearby but luckily it was an easy walk from our hotel. If you can walk, do it.

This the last corner of the main intersection in Charleston but its building is just as impressive. I did not get inside but I enjoyed the exterior.

Amy was great. Very knowledgeable, lots of good supporting documents to help bring the area to life. Good speaker. Well worth the ticket price.

This small well curated Paleontology Museum is at the College of Charleston. There’s so much to see, crammed into two rooms containing 1,000 fossils which includes dinosaur bones, crinoids, Pleistocene and Oligocene mammals, mosasaurs, cave bears, ocean life and fossil plants amongst others.
Exhibits include the reconstructed jaw of the giant extinct shark Megalodon with real teeth, the evolution of whales and dolphins and the “touch me” interactive display from the Charleston area from many millions years ago. Not a tourist hotspot but to me, well worth my time. Please note that classes are going on next door…!

Park at a meter on Calhoun and check out the Halsey, which is free to the public and has rotating exhibitions throughout the year If possible check out their opening nights (6:30-8:00) which are $5 for non-members with an open bar. Artists often provide a talk the next day. The student galleries are also fun to stroll through...you never know where talent will rise to the surface!

During a Gullah Tour, we stopped by this museum. We had the privilege of visiting Mr Simmons workshop and the inside of his home. Such an humble man with an amazing talent. It’s not a whole lot to see as the home is small. The iron works on display are beautiful.

Renovation in progress. The museum is currently closed for remodeling and renovation. Unsure of when it will reopen

This is a small but interesting spot that will make boomers nostalgic. For those with more recent birth dates the museum offers a look at communication before Facebook etc. This facility is used by classes and so you need to be flexible but the small staff is nice and enthusiastic.
