The gardens at Magnolia were beautiful. The house and surrounding plantation were rich in history and well-maintained. For someone who didn’t rent a car during our stay, transportation from Charleston being included in admission was the real MVP of the trip. It was a 45 minute commute from Charleston’s Visitor Center we wouldn’t have made otherwise, and our driver provided a lot of information about Magnolia along the way, as well as bug spray when we arrived. Being part of a group also gave us a mini VIP treatment as we were the first to tour the house. We had to cancel a separate tour of Boone Hall Plantation we had booked because transportation was not included. My only complaint - if I had one at all - was that I wish we had more time at Magnolia. After a tram ride around the grounds looking at plants and wildlife, we had to choose between a walking tour of the gardens or a March to Freedom demonstration near the old slave cabins but didn’t have time to do both. The March to Freedom was informative of the slave trade during that time & explained how the Magnolia plantation operated under slave labor.

Great overview of history of Charleston with an extremely knowledgeable driver. Temperature outside 93 degrees, so it was perfect to be led around the city in the comfort of an air conditioned van👍

The bus ride was good however the individual stops on the tour were not organized well especially at the Carolina Bell. If the boarding area had been changed that should have been communicated instead of having us continuously walking and getting nowhere.

Jeff was extremely knowledgeable about all things Charleston and took us to all the must-see spots. It was great to hear about the history of different buildings. He had cold water waiting for us in the car and was very accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

I highly recommend this trip. Leann was amazing and she made the whole event very special for us. You see some amazing views and hear some great history about the low country we did not know. The van is comfortable and AC and she had goody bags for everyone with a full agenda and some awesome books. Well worth the money.

Trip was great. Alex our driver was a blast. The only reason for a 4 was we had a sandwich for lunch but no water. Nothing to drink. If we had not had water with us we wouldn’t have had anything to drink.

We had a spectacular guide- Mike Frederick! He was very knowledgeable about Middleton Place which enhanced our enjoyment of the day. In addition, Mike provided lots of information and insight into Charleston past and present. He clearly loves what he’s doing and imparts that to guests. By the end our tour we felt like good friends. We’ll definitely be looking to take another tour with Mike when we return.

Before the tour began Jon asked what we were interested in seeing. As this was our first trip to Charleston, we were open to suggestions. Jon chose three main sites (the Citadel, Magnolia cemetery, and parts of the historic Charleston city center hear the harbor). He wove together historical events, interesting and stories, and helpful interpretation to bring the past and present alive. The cemetery visit focused on a few families and events and provided insight about a few prominent families and military events; we found it totally fascinating. Jon's experience in real estate was very helpful as he pointed out unusual aspects of several homes in the historic part of town. We were delighted with this private tour and would highly recommend it to others.
